Dunhill's iPod case

Dunhill's iPod case

Dunhill's iPod case 08/13/2004 01:41 AM

The Dunhill cigarette company has made a cigarette-case-style case for the iPod, which, in classinc Dunhill hyperbole, they describe as "ergonomic and luxurious." One thing I've learned since moving to the UK: anytime something is described as "luxurious" (i.e. "Luxury hot cocoa") it is anything but. Nevertheless, the Dunhill cases look pretty rad. That's right; a tube sock to hold an iPod, and it's up for grabs on eBay. From the looks of the pictures linked to the auction, it's not even a new sock.

The thought process that went into developing this product must've really been something. A true creative genius at work. I wonder if he'd mind if I borrowed his idea and marketed it myself... I smell an opportunity!

Well, we're nothing if not keen to further the awareness of such products as the Piel Frama Ostrich Leather Case for your iPod mini. The "luxurious and unusual ostrich leather case" is $95 but currently out of stock at iPodWorld. RetroPod: Hipster Hard Case for iPod 07/01/2004 12:31 PM

retropod_wink.jpg image

The god damned hipsters have struck again -- and this time, it's portable. The Retropod is a, uhm, retrofitting of older Sony "Sports Walkmans" that is probably the very least functional case for iPods I've ever seen. All you get is a headphone out, and you have to open up the case to get to the controls. Even the inline remote won't work, because of the way the headphone extender works. But hey, their models are cute and that goes a long way, even if I can smell the reek of Pabst right through the JPEG.

Now if the only option they offered were the $100 version, I'd have to throw them back out on the curb where they mate and sleep, but since they also have a $20 DIY version (Walkman not included), we'll let it slide for now.

What's cooler than hanging with your fellow iPod users on Miami's South Beach on September 1st? How about going home with a brand new iPod mini in your pocket?

Yeah, that probably got your attention. But thanks to event sponsors iPodResQ, the iPod mini is just one prize among many that we'll be giving away at the South Beach iPod Garage Party. So what do you have to do to win? All you have to do is show up with your iPod, connect it to our sound system, and play "DJ" for twelve minutes as you share the highlights of your own music library with the rest of us (as many songs as you like, as long as it fits within the time limit). Yep, it's your very own twelve minutes of fame.

08/13/2004 07:17 AM
Griffin Technology has introduced RoadTrip, a 3-in-1 device that provides an FM transmitter, charger and cradle for all dock-capable iPod and iPod mini MP3 players. The transmitter broadcasts your music on any FM frequency on your car stereo, with a backlit display that shows which frequency is in use, while the charger keeps your iPod's battery at full capacity. The RoadTrip plugs into any 12-volt outlet or cigarette lighter in your car and its transmitter unit can be removed and plugged into a USB port on your computer, enabling music broadcast from it to any nearby FM stereo. Griffin has left the top of the US$79.99 device open for use with other iPod accessories, which means RoadTrip isn't compatible with the 1G and 2G iPods that have FireWire ports on top.

A flap at the bottom opens for charging the MP3 player in a dock; slots at the top and bottom allow access to all the ports. The PocketDo ck Line Out ($29.95) also features a 6-pin FireWire port but adds a 3.5mm (1/8-inch) stereo jack that bypasses the iPod's headphones amplifier for better sound quality when connecting the MP3 player to external speakers. It comes with two six-foot white audio cables. Both PocketDock models are available now and are compatible with Apple's 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40GB iPods, as well as the iPod mini.
