Airgo Goes Faster With Belkin.
08/12/2004 12:38 AMUnstrung:
Airgo Goes
Faster With Belkin. IMO calling this stuff "pre-802.11n" borders
on fraud since the IEEE hasn't even started writing the 802.11n spec
yet. I also notice that the marketing war between "true MIMO" and
(presumably) "poseur MIMO" has begun.

Belkin PureAV Wireless Video Transmitter
Belkin PureAV Wireless Video Transmitter
09/15/2004 06:07 AM
For something that costs $500 and has 40Mbit of wireless
bandwidth at its disposal, you'd think the Belkin PureAV could do a
little better than SDTV signal (Standard Definition), even if it does
have component input and output. Basically a wireless wire, the PureAV
is designed to let you transmit video signal up to 350 feet (depending
on interference, like walls, or hurricanes). And it looks like it is
compressing the signal via MEPG2 before it beams it, which probably
isn't that big a deal, but come on! How could anyone drop $500 on
something these days that can't at least support higher resolution
formats? Maybe there's something going on here I'm missing.
Oh, here are the last four DiscHub codes. What a fun contest. We'll
definitely do this again: RFG987 FIG398 2587RT RE58TH

Whither The Belkin PureAV Wireless
Digital Audio Receiver?
Whither The Belkin PureAV Wireless
Digital Audio Receiver?
07/13/2004 09:01 AM
The Belkin PureAV Wireless
Digital Audio Receiver sounded like a pretty decent product when PCMag
ran their little blurb. A simple and cheap ($130) 802.11b receiver
that could be dropped on any wireless network, slurp up your MP3s and
other audio, and pump out sound to your stereo. You could even listen
to internet radio without having any PCs on. So, uhm, where is it?
There's nothing on Belkin's website about it, and PCMag hasn't given
us anything else. (Thanks, Chris.)

Nortel to Offer Converged CDMA, WLAN
Products
03/17/2005 03:44 AMNortel said it will offer a converged CDMA and WLAN platform: The
offering means that CDMA operators can deploy WLANs to deliver
higher-bandwidth at a lower cost. This type of offering will make a
lot of sense once more combined Wi-Fi and cellular devices become
available. Cellular operators most likely won't be interested in
converged solutions that require them to offload traffic from their
cellular networks onto WLANs owned by someone else. But it makes sense
for them to offload cellular traffic onto WLANs they own and this type
of offering from Nortel should make it easier for operators to
efficiently deploy both types of networks. The platform supports
seamless roaming between the two types of networks....
