recorded properly.

Is Presidential Election Spam On The
Way?
Is Presidential Election Spam On The
Way?
09/09/2004 03:51 AMAre you ready for that political spam? An anti-spam company is now
estimating that the US presidential election will
ge
nerate 1.25 billion political emails this year, and notes that the
campaigns already have access to 25 million email addresses. Of
course, both of these claims could use further explanation. As the
article goes on to note, those 25 million email addresses are often
held by companies who refuse to give them to the campaigns. If that's
the case, why are they included in this stat in the first place?
Furthermore, the way the article is laid out, you would think that all
of the messages are unwanted, but the details suggest that they're
including opt-in messages from the campaigns. So, when you boil the
numbers down, it's really not nearly as bad as the article makes it
out to be at first. There are still likely to be some mistakes made
with presidential campaign emails, but this article suggests there's a
problem where there might not be any.

Presidential fright-mask sales as

Presidential fright-mask sales as
election-predictors
09/24/2004 05:36 AM
Cory Doctorow:
A manufacturer of rubber presidential fright masks says that their
sales figures during election-year Hallowe'ens successfully predict
the winner of the upcoming presidential election. Unfortunately, at
the moment more people are signing up to buy Shrub funnymasks than
Kerry, but it's still early times.
In 2000, due to the popularity of political masks, BuyCostumes.com
began publishing statistics on each Presidential Candidate's mask
sales. It was soon apparent that the mask sales were as good a
resource as the polls being published by major national media groups.
Seeing the similarities, BuyCostumes.com then looked into some data on
political mask sales in election years. Not only did they ask five
different mask manufacturers, they also spoke with 12 national stores
about their sales history all the way back to 1980. Their findings
were astounding and right every time....

Lawmakers ask that U.N. monitor election
Lawmakers ask that U.N. monitor election
07/07/2004 04:34 PM
Lawmake
rs ask that U.N. monitor election "A group of congressional
Democrats, led by Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas, has asked the
United Nations to monitor this year's presidential election."
Fortunately, the UN said no. Unbelievable. I hope that everyone that
signed this letter will lose their seat in the November election.
What a shameless publicity stunt. "Besides Johnson, Democratic
members of Congress signing the letter to Annan were Julia Carson of
Indiana; Jerrold Nadler, Edolphus Towns, Joseph Crowley and Carolyn B.
Maloney, all of New York; Raul Grijalva of Arizona, Corrine Brown of
Florida, Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland, Danny K. Davis of Illinois
and Michael M. Honda of California."

OhmyNews is reporting that
an NGO group in Korea (sorry, their name is difficult to
translate) has launched
an international campaign named “Defeat Bush Network”
to defeat Bush in
the upcoming election. Here is a picture of some Indians
holding Defeat
Bush Network tabloids that were handed out in Moombai (?),
India in their efforts
to get citizens of other countries involved.
Looks like Bush loses by one vote in this group
While non-Americans trying to influence the outcome of an American
election is weird
and I have mixed feelings about it, I must say they got some
balls. If I had
to guess, I think their argument is that it's their business if
they are affected
by the result of the election.
