Some users have experienced a problem that causes the application icons in Macromedia's Studio MX 2004 suite and Contribute 2 to "bounce" in the Dock but never actually launch. Macromedia's Customer Service site has posted details of the problem and how to fix it.

Macromedia today announced version 3 of its popular Contribute software. Contribute ties in with Dreamweaver to allow users to update pages without the risk of changing elements they were not supposed to change. It's a desktop based content management system. The new updates adds some interesting Mac-only features. That was probably thanks to the high adoption rate of Contribute for Mac users... About 20% of Contribute's 200,000 users are on the Mac which is a higher percentage than other Macromedia software. MacMerc got an exclusive look at the software prior to the announcement--here's what we found:

Macromedia Inc. announced today the availability of Contribute 3 and FlashPaper 2. Contribute 3 has more than 300 updates, according to the company. Major new features include the same engine as Dreamweaver MX 2004 with support for CSS rendering; also supported is rules-based administrative control. "Send for Review" is a new function that provides Contribute users operating in a collaborative environment to send documents to each other for review and posting.

Reelhouse announced on Monday the release of its latest compilation of royalty-free high-definition video clips. Ambient FX HD (US$399) contains 27 30-second long background animation clips that you can seamlessly loop into Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro projects. The clips are optimized in high-definition for use in the 16 x 9 aspect ratio, but you can also purchase the collection in network-quality NTSC and PAL resolutions for $299; the latter is called Ambient FX. In addition, individual clips from either collection are available for $129 each.
