08/19/2004 03:01 PMAP - Though NBC is blanketing seven networks with 1,210 hours of
Olympics coverage, there's this pesky, bill-paying task called work
that keeps me from fully enjoying the televised competition.
After saturation coverage of Olympics,
why no Paralympics TV coverage in US?

Xeni Jardin:
BBC Journalist and blogger Stuart Hughes says:
The Olympics were a huge success for NBC.200 million viewers. A "halo
effect" that boosted other channels and programmes. An estimated
$60-70 million profit (Source: Hollywood Reporter) Before the Games started,
NBC boast
ed of the depth and breadth of its coverage.1210 hours of
events.103 commentators. 28 Olympians on the commentary team. A week
from now, I'll be heading back to Athens for Greece's second
remarkable major sporting event of the year. The Paraly
mpics will boast:4000 athletes. 140 countries represented.525
gold medals at stake. 19 sports. There will be no American TV coverage of the
Paralympics. Let me repeat that. There will be NO AMERICAN TV
COVERAGE OF THE PARALYMPICS. Not one hour of live coverage.
Not one commentator. Not one Olympian on the commentary team. Nothing.
This at the same time that a record number of journalists are
preparing to cover the Paralympics.

MacMerc.com offers live coverage of
Steve Jobs' Macworld keynote address
01/05/2005 01:16 AMAs has been the tradition since MacMerc was launched, we will be
hosting live Macworld keynote coverage that pushes the envelope by
bringing you in on the action. We will have 3 reporters at the keynote
address and simultaneously connected and posting to the MacMerc IRC
chat--that's IRC, not iChat. Our men in the field this expo include
our own Jon Gales, "DigitalBill" Douthett of the Wizards of Technology
and, on color commentary, tech broadcasting king Leo Laporte.
To take full advantage of this coverage, download an IRC client (we
are recommending Conversation) and log on to irc.slashnet.org and join
the channel #mercworld (a moderated channel where you can watch the
announcements from our reporters) and #macmerc (an unmoderated channel
where you can discuss the announcements with the other Mac fans. Any
questions?
Our coverage of the Expo won't end when the keynote is over. No, we
have many other surprises in store for you. So get yourself set up to
chat, and keep an eye on MacMerc.com for all the MacWorld Expo
excitement.
