iTunes UK Gets iMix Write-Indie Campaign

iTunes UK Gets iMix Write-Indie Campaign 06/29/2004 12:16 PM

UK iTunes Music Store users have hijacked (sortof) the iMix service to lambast Apple for its lack of indie labels on its newly launched European version of the service -- a lack perhaps more noticable in the UK, as many notable and popular artists release albums on smaller, independent labels. Fans can make iMixes and anonymously upload them to the Music Store with their own titles, some of which include "ITUNES NEEDS INDIES," "Where is the Radiohead 5-inch," "Release the Indies!," and "Bigger, Gayer, Camper."

That last one may have its own agenda, come to think on it.

Technorati: Charting Blogdom's Rise

"Sifry mentioned that Technorati started out on Thanksgiving weekend 2002 as an effort to find out "who was talking about me" in the blogosphere. Since then, it has begun charting an increasing number of blogs -- an average of:

- 3,000 a day in January 2003
- 4,000 a day by that March
- 6,000 a day by June 2003
- 8,000-9,000 new blogs a day by September 2003
- 10,000 at the end of 2003
- 11,000 to 12,000 new blogs a day today.

That's pretty incredible, and it adds up to 2.4 million total blogs that Technorati is monitoring. Not all are active. Of that number, about 45 percent have not been updated in the past three months. And he points out that 2.4 million blogs does not equate to 2.4 million bloggers, because many bloggers have multiple blogs." [JD's New Media Musings]

It would be interesting to know how many of those are by librarians and how many are for libraries.

Comments RSS Feed Added

Comments RSS Feed Added 12/02/2003 12:19 AM
The other day, while setting up my linkblog and its RSS feed, I decided to also setup an RSS feed for my blog comments. The idea is simple, really. Weblogs are great because of RSS. I don't have to poll (visit each site repeatedly, looking for updates) anymore. My aggregator does that for me. However, when I get interested in a discussion on one, I'm back to square one again: polling. By providing a feed of the 10 most recent...

View source added to Flash

View source added to Flash 04/08/2005 05:48 PM
Earlier this week at the Flash Forward conference (centered around Macromedia's Flash product), Creative Commons Chariman and CEO Lawrence Lessig gave a talk about bringing a culture of sharing to the Flash community like the one that exists for HTML. Every web browser can view source of any HTML document, and millions of online publishers got their start by looking at each others' code, but Flash doesn't directly allow for it. Although flash sharing sites have sprung up to fill the void, there was no easy way to share all your code in Flash.

Macromedia's Mike Chambers answered the call and less than 24 hours later produced an actionscript file that adds a view source option to any flash movie. If you use Macromedia's Flash product and want to share your work with others, by all means give it a try. I hope to see this functionality become an option in upcoming releases of the Flash authoring environment.
