Norm and I posting our NSDL and SMEX-D proposals seems to have unleashed a flood of energy in this space. I previously pointed to Dion Hinchcliffe’s survey work; well, Dion is really getting down to business with his Taking Stock of Web Services Description. He’s going to be taking a serious run at fourteen (!) different candidate languages, applying them to a real web service and doing real implementations. I don’t see anything to complain about in his approach. I’m subscribed, you betcha, and if you care about Web Services you should be too. Fortunately, Dion is braver than I and supports comments, so there may be some interesting dialogue there.

Take the MIT Weblog Survey Cameron Marlow (creator of Blogdex and a friend) is running a survey about weblogs. If you're a weblog author, it will take you about 15 minutes to complete and asks some straight-forward questions about when you started blogging, what you link to and why, etc. Don't worry, no essays are involved, you just check some boxes and click some buttons. Please consider taking a moment to participate if you're a blogger. With surveys, like parties, the more the merrier! And diverser!

Pew Musician Survey

Pew Musician Survey 05/03/2004 10:56 AM

The Pew Internet Project released a report today, which surveyed musicians and internet users. While the downloading habits portion of the results were covered in the NY Times today, the most compelling statistic from the artist report was this:

83% [of musicians] have provided free samples of their work online and significant numbers say free downloading has helped them sell CDs and increase the crowds at concerts

That's great to hear, and it's my hope these same musicians come to understand how Creative Commons can help them share their samples and also let fans rip, mix, and burn, while still increasing CD and ticket sales.

Notae Survey

Notae Survey 06/24/2005 03:05 PM

There are some general design considerations I need to make before long, and a lot of them come down to usage more than preference. For many things, I can add a checkbox or menu to the preferences and that covers the indecision, but other things are more fundamental.

So, for that, I ask that those that have a little time answer the following survey. While you can submit more than once, I'd rather you not, of course. :)
