Lakewood Studios has announced the release of iList Studio 2.0, the new version of the company's database software that integrates with Microsoft Office 2004. The upgrade adds support for every MySQL field type as well as six meta field types: Boolean, path, URL, color, JPEG and calculation; support for multiple users, including password protection and different levels of privileges; updated interface controls; one-click export of record lists to Microsoft Word or Excel; and more. Lakewood's Web site doesn't list pricing information for upgrades from the initial release of iList Studio, but the full version is US$69.95 through Aug. 27, when the price will become $129.95. You can download a demo that will display up to 25 records and launch no more than 25 times before you must buy a license. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.2 or higher, a G3 processor running at 350MHz or faster (G4 or G5 recommended), 256MB RAM (512MB recommended), QuickTime 5.x or higher and MySQL 4.0 for locally hosted databases.

iList 0.4.1 (Default branch) 02/07/2005 01:17 AM
Screenshot iList is an intelligent playlist for the KDE media player Noatun. It is intelligent in the sense that songs are selected from a (possibly large) repository of audio files in a smart manner. Think of it as your personal radio station that plays your favourite songs all day long. iList supports implicit song ranking, incremental search, a song history, independent queueing, multiple collections, and fast access to large repositories with auto detection of new files.
Changes:
Minor bugs have been fixed, and a lot of improvements to the user interface like a configuration wizard, context sensitive help, and integrated CD burning of playlists have been made. A new mode called "Adaptive Learning" has been added that associates actions like skip or double-click with configurable priority changes. The settings have been enhanced and restructured for easier customizability.

My Other Brain Is Powered By Silicon... 08/02/2004 01:39 PM
A short piece at CNN examines how younger people today now seem to c onsider computers and the internet as real extensions of their "carbon" brains. Without a laptop and an internet connection, it's as if they're working at a disadvantage. The article isn't suggesting this is a bad thing (as some might assume), but rather that it's different, and interesting to see how people adapt when a large component of their brain is outside of their body.
