04/20/2004 11:21 AMMost Linux distros provide a wide variety of server applications, and
many network-aware apps are enabled by default when you install the
operating system. Before you put your new Linux machine online, there
are a number of steps you should take to make your network secure. Use
these tips every time you perform a fresh install; none of these steps
will help to secure a machine that has already been compromised.

HP's NX5000 Linux notebook: A breach of
the Windows wall?
09/24/2004 03:51 AMThis article is supposed to be a review of the first PC with a Linux
distribution preloaded offered by a tier-one OEM to the general
public. As announced during the Linux World Conference and Expo in
August, the NX5000 is available -- only online at HP -- preloaded with
your choice of a custom version of SUSE 9.1 or Windows XP. You can
purchase the NX5000 at other online resellers, but only with Windows
installed. This isn't quite the review I hoped for, but it's as close
as we could get.

08/01/2004 03:30 AMAccording to a recent study by Current Analysis, unit sales of
notebooks equipped with a widescreen 15.4-inch display have steadily
continued to climb throughout the first half of 2004. As of June 30,
the widescreen market accounted for 48% of all notebooks sold,
compared to only 15% in December 2003. The growth represents the
highest share yet for the widescreen models since its introduction in
the spring of 2003 and demonstrates widescreen systems are selling in
greater numbers than its traditional square counterparts. [PRWEB Aug

DO NOT INSTALL VIREX 7.2
03/13/2003 10:15 AM
The Virex 7.2 package, currently being distributed free to all
.Mac
members, has a serious conflict with Fink. Fink users should not
install
Virex 7.2 under any circumstances.
Installing it after Fink is installed
will damage your Fink installation; installing it prior to Fink will
make
it impossible to install Fink without damaging Virex.
This bug has been reported
to Virex's manufacturer. We will keep the
Fink community informed about the situation as it develops.
