Microsoft to Buy Nintendo?
Microsoft to Buy Nintendo?
08/04/2004 03:27 PMSpeculation's running rampant (based on a rather random comment by CEO
Bill Gates) that Microsoft is looking to buy Nintendo. But most gaming
industry watchers seem to agree Nintendo's not shopping itself around.
And if it were, it would prefer not to sell to Microsoft.

06/09/2004 08:46 AMWhy the push towards Xbox Next, console bundles, and Grand Theft Auto
have one Nintendo manager steamed. Nintendo Europe managing director
David Gosen has strongly criticised Microsoft for attempting to drive
the industry to a hardware transition too early, and also attacked the
games media for its focus on the next generation. Speaking at the
ELSPA Games Summit in London, Gosen described the industry's current
generational cycle as a "self-fulfilling prophecy," saying that the
industry was stuck in a mindset where "five to six years is right, and
come what may, we're going to stick to it."

08/05/2004 08:50 AMU.S. computer giant Microsoft Corp Chairman Bill Gates has expressed
interest in buying Japan's Nintendo Co, the German economic weekly
Wirtschafts Woche reported in its electronic edition on Wednesday.
Gates revealed his interest at a meeting of economic analysts in the
United States. The magazine quoted Gates as saying he would
immediately make an offer if Nintendo is ready to sell itself. If
Hiroshi Yamauchi, the biggest shareholder of Nintendo and its adviser,
calls, "he will be directly transferred to me," Gates said.

Nintendo
08/05/2004 10:39 AMA German financial magazine, WirtschaftsWoche, reported Wednesday that
Bill Gates said he was interested in buying video game giant Nintendo.
Many Web sites and several news services picked up the report, and
Microsoft Corp.'s public relations team shifted swiftly into gear for
damage control and denial. Its corporate statement was that Microsoft
did not comment on "rumors or speculation."
Beyond that, the Microsoft view was clearly that the reported comments
were out of context. The remark attributed to Gates was made during an
informal cocktail reception after Microsoft's yearly financial
analysts' meeting recently at the company's Redmond headquarters.

Nintendo DS
12/19/2004 03:46 PM The hype machine has been hot and heavy for the Nintendo DS. Of
course there's always the excitement about a brand-new gaming console,
whether it's a handheld or home unit. But the DS the Dual
Screen is something altogether new. We managed to get our
hands on one and let game reviewer Ben Kuchera give it a good
rogering.
So I didn't know what to think when I hit the town looking for a
Nintendo DS. Like most of us I was skeptical of the unit at first, the
idea of a handheld with two screens and touch capabilities seemed too
gimmicky, almost as if Nintendo was getting into the PDA market. Sony
seemed ready to take the handheld crown from Nintendo with specs that
were more initially impressive.
The result? Well, we're not going to spill the beans here, but
let's just say he was pleasantly surprised. Want more detail? Read

Nintendo DS to Have Wi-Fi Voice Over IP
08/31/2004 03:07 PMInformation has come out about Nintendo's upcoming DS handheld's
ability to serve as a voice-over-IP handset, allowing DS gamers to
make phone calls when connected to a Wi-Fi access point. There's no
word if the service will allow DS users to call other, regular phones
or not. Knowing Nintendo, it's probably more likely that DS users will
be able to chat to other DS users, and not serve as an actual phone.
(Thanks, John!)
