Mad Catz Announces First DS Accessories
09/27/2004 09:04 AMI'm not a big fan of Mad Catz products, as a rule, but they do have
the minor distinction of being the first company to announce
peripherals/accessories for the upcoming Nintendo DS handheld,
including a hard case, screen protectors, game cases, a car charger,
AC adapter, earphones, replacement styluses, and 'DS Kit' and 'DS II
Mobile Kit' bundles. This will probably be the last time I mention DS
accessories like this, though, so lets just take a moment to
reflect.

PocketDock Line Out for iPod
06/21/2004 09:06 AM
SendStation, the
people who make the tiny PocketDock for the iPod have announced two
new models, the PocketDock Combo, which allows iPod owners to use
standard USB and FireWire cables to connect their dock-compatible
iPods to their PCs (instead of using Apple's cables) and the
PocketDock Line Out, which includes both the standard FireWire and an
eighth-inch stereo jack which feeds signal directly out of the iPods
line-out port (instead of the amplified headphone jack at the top).
The PocketDock Combo can be had for $23, while the Line Out can be had
for $30. Simple, cheap, easy. Nicely done.

06/21/2004 01:46 PMSendStation Systems and RadTech have released two new PocketDock
models and
MiniSleevz
for iPod mini, respectively. SendStation's PocketDock is an adapter
that allows users to connect their iPods to their Macs with standard
FireWire cables instead of Apple's docking cables. The company's new
PocketDock
Combo (US$22.95) contains USB and FireWire ports that accept
standard USB cables as well as 6-pin FireWire cables. The
PocketDo
ck Line Out ($29.95) also features a 6-pin FireWire port but adds
a 3.5mm (1/8-inch) stereo jack that bypasses the iPod's headphones
amplifier for better sound quality when connecting the MP3 player to
external speakers. It comes with two six-foot white audio cables. Both
PocketDock models are available now and are compatible with Apple's
10, 15, 20, 30 and 40GB iPods, as well as the iPod mini.

Morning in Singapore
12/17/2004 06:31 PMLet's see. I left Boston on Sunday at 6, and flew from Newark, NJ at
11pm. They served dinner at 12:30 AM (rice and spinach because heaven
knows we vegetarians don't like to combine elemental foodstuffs into
interesting new creations) and I "slept" from 1:30-7:30AM. For some
reason, they didn't serve breakfast until 1:30pm on Monday, then at
5:30pm on Monday we landed here, except that it was 6:30AM on Tuesday.

12/17/2004 06:31 PMOn the advice of my host, I took a taxi to the Indian Temple in

sculptures of gods. The streets around it are lined with little
open-front shops selling tourist junk. After wandering in and out of
dozens, I bought my son a present (he's reading this so I can't say
what) and almost got the bargaining thing right: It was marked $8 (=
US$4.80), I offered $5, she said $7, and I lost my nerve so we didn't
