First announced in January 2004, Apple's iBook Logic Board Replacement program has been extended until March 18. The program covers specific iBook models manufactured between May 2002 and April 2003; many of those computers have experienced logic board component failures that led to video display problems. iBooks with serial numbers in the UV117XXXXXX to UV342XXXXXX range are covered by this program, which allows owners of affected computers to send them to an Apple repair center for free servicing. FireWire Depot has introduced the Newnex FireNEX-MX, an optical repeater for transmitting FireWire 400 and 800 data signals over multi mode optical fiber cable up to 3,280 feet long. It's slightly larger than a deck of cards and contains two 6-pin FireWire 400 ports and one FireWire 800 port. According to the FireWire Depot Web site, the Newnex FireNEX-MX will be in stock on Oct. 11 for US$850, with optical cables available in lengths from 32 to 3,280 feet, starting at $65.
