Describing Document Text for
Accessibility.
08/19/2002 11:50 AMA key focus of accessible web site design is providing equivalent
alternatives to auditory and visual content.
Because it is generally assumed that the raw text in a web document
literally speaks for itself, it is often overlooked in accessibility
checks. Although it is not dangerous to assume your text will be fine,
it is worthwhile going the extra mile and adding a few behind the
scenes touches to improve accessibility.

resources you'll ever need to make your web site accessible. Have you
ever had discussions with people and said, "We need to make that
accessible?" or "This site needs to to made 508 compatible"? All gets
to be a bit of a mouthful, doesn't it? What is really needed to make
these meetings much shorter is a new verb: 'accessify' - to make
accessible. They like the phrase, so much that they built this site
around it! What are the aims of Accessify? To build up a collection of
useful resources, links to the best accessibility sites and an
online

Client uses wacky dummy text for real
website: "We are truly the finest of all

04/11/2005 05:12 PMMark Frauenfelder:
A Boing Boing reader read my earlier entry about
text greeking and sent me a hilarious anecdote. He designed a
website for a restaurant called Windows On the Bay. The client had not
yet given him the copy for the site, so he filled the page with what
he describes as "incredibly overblown, remarkably pretentious text."
He says the client ended up using the copy!
Windows on the Bay is the finest restaurant on the Jersey
Shore. We are the alpha and the omega in seashore dining and freshly
prepared gourmet seafood. No other restaurant in New Jersey looks out
over such a commanding view. We are truly the finest of all possible
restaurants.
Our chefs have all been trained at the finest schools in the world,
and they put every ounce of that training to work for you. We create
each made-to-order dish fresh and put every ounce of our considerable
skill and knowledge to work to make you the best meal possible.
Our highly-trained wait staff are here to serve your every need.
They are ready to bend their skills and energy to every table, every
serving; you will be waited on as you have never been waited on
before.
We are sure you will come back for more. Once you've come to
Windows on the Bay, you will never want to leave.

What Is Web Accessibility?
What Is Web Accessibility?
04/30/2004 07:00 PMWhile the methods we use to create accessible websites can be complex,
the essential principles are simple: consider the obstacles your site
presents to users who approach it differently than you do, then remove
as many of those obstacles as you can. Trenton Moss provides a quick
overview.

06/08/2004 03:38 PMAccessibility technology is way more important than most people
realize (hint: is your eyesight getting better or worse, year by
year?) and there’s a lot of it and it’s hard to stay on top of.

that space; worth a read.
The Lifecycle of Web Accessibility
The Lifecycle of Web Accessibility
12/12/2002 10:51 AMYou can't believe how easy it is to turn a potentially accessible site
into an inaccessible one. Developing a site for web accessibility has
its own life cycle that is strictly interconnected with other
disciplines such as graphic design, application development and
content management. Here's a model to follow.

Understanding Color and Accessibility
Understanding Color and Accessibility
03/14/2005 06:09 PMWe all know that color can make or break a site. But beyond eye candy
appeal, color choices also impact usability and accessibility. This
can impact up to 1 in 12 people, roughly 8% of a site's potential
audience. The solution is not to use only boring colors or do only
simple designs. In contrast, by understanding better the relationship
between color and accessibility, the designer can make inspired and
creative choices for the multi-device Internet.
