Just spotted a new Google feature. If your results include some foreign-language links (example) a little box hanging down from the blue "Searched the web for ..." bar asks "Would you prefer to search for English results only ?". But if I do the search on Google.de, it doesn't ask me if I only want only German results. Speaking of foreign languages, if you speak French, you might like this french Google Weblog. And while not all of them speak French, up in Canada Google's helping to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. (Yeah, they're a bit early and I'm a bit late...) (Thanks, Greg!)...

We’ve been getting a lot of reports over the last couple of weeks about Canadian collectors scoring Revenge Of The Sith toys at Zellers stores across the country (except here in Vancouver. Typical.), but this one takes the cake. Rebelscum reader Jason from Toronto wrote in that he found all the LEGO sets pictured above at the East York Town Centre Zellers, but that isn’t the best part. It would appear as though the chain is preparing for the big event on April 2nd by clearing out all their older LEGO sets With a buy one, get one 50% off sale! This of course is including all the new stock their more illiterate employees are stocking the shelves with.

AFP's recent lawsuit against Google is a prime example of why the Google News service is still in "beta." Unfortunately, the "beta" label didn't protect Google from litigation this time.

Google News beta

Google News beta 09/24/2002 05:08 AM
Google News presents information culled from approximately 4,000 news sources worldwide and automatically arranged to present the most relevant news first. Topics are updated continuously throughout the day, so you will see new stories each time you check the page. Google has developed an automated grouping process for Google News that pulls together related headlines and photos from thousands of sources worldwide -- enabling you to see how different news organizations are reporting the same story. You pick the item that interests you, then go directly to the site which published the account you wish to read.

Google News is highly unusual in that it offers a news service compiled solely by computer algorithms without human intervention. Google employs no editors, managing editors, or executive editors. While the sources of the news vary in perspective and editorial approach, their selection for inclusion is done without regard to political viewpoint or ideology. While this may lead to some occasionally unusual and contradictory groupings, it is exactly this variety that makes Google News a valuable source of information on the important issues of the day.

You can trace the history of a developing issue by clicking the "sort by date" function on the page containing all reports on a given topic. This will arrange the stories in chronological order, with the most recent report placed first.
