Creative Manager Inc. has announced that the next release of its Creative Manager Pro ad
agency software will add a Media Buying module. Due to ship in
mid-August, Creative Manager Pro 7.1's new module will enable agencies
to track print insertion and broadcast orders, generate media cost
estimates, view media schedules and handle media billing and
pre-billing, among other functions. The update will be free for all
registered users of the software.

and publishing, it's been sort of interesting to watch both Adobe and
Macromedia sort of stand aside and watch, without getting too
involved. Both companies seem to have flashes of brilliance, but then
also appear to be slow and a bit behind on various things happening
online. It looks like the two will try to figure out where they're
going together, as Adobe has
announced plans to buy Macromedia for $3.4 billion. Of course,
taking two different companies that both seem to have vision problems,
and combining them, doesn't always do much for the combined entity.
In fact, the time and effort spent combining can often lead the
companies to take their eyes off the ball. However, given both
companies dominant positions in certain areas, a well-executed merger
certainly could do well. It's just a question of how well the plan
can be executed.

flagship product, Creative
Manager Pro, now supports calendar and contact sharing with
Apple's iCal and Address Book applications. The new feature helps
managers fully integrate personnel schedules and contact information
in the projects they track with the tool. The company also noted that,
because iCal and Address Book can sync with Palm OS devices, you can
now take the Web-based calendars generated by Creative Manager Pro on
the road.
If you'd like to
read a review of the Creative Portable Media Center with "so much
added (and useless) commentary that Gizmodo would be ashamed to
publish it," ExtremeTech has a very unpositive, baseball-centric
review. While I don't think that portable media centers are going to
crash and burn, necessarily (although the ones hobbled by DRM might),
I do think it's amusing for a company to promote products that are
most easily (and most commonly) used by those that use Bit Torrent and
other copyright-infringement tools, while with the other hand selling
