Trusted Reviews has taken the MSI Mega 516BT Bluetooth flash player out for a spin, yet despite a load of improvements over the previous models, like the addition of an SD/MMC expansion slot and the hard-to-miss Bluetooth, they still find it to be overall a dud. It's not that the potential isn't there. When it works, features like the ability to record calls into the player while using it as a Bluetooth headset are pretty great, but an uneven user interface and spotty success with some of the phones they tested it with make it look as if this player might be one to pass over unless you're in dire need of the handful of unique features it offers.

Wireless in music players isn't a bad idea. Why, according to The Register, even Apple thinks so.

TrustedReviews takes out the MSI MEGA Player 515 for a twirl -- it's the flash MP3 player that's most rememberable for its mirror-finish OLED display -- and they give it 9 humps out of 10, despite its crusty old USB 1.1 interface and only 256MB of memory. Personally, I think they're just suckers for the display, just like every other person that buys the little soap-tray of a player will have to be.

Blueserker is reporting that Amazon is taking preorders for the BoomGear MP-820BT MP3 player for $180. The MP-820BT has integrated Bluetooth which can, when paired with your mobile phone, route incoming calls over your headphones and use the built-in microphone to talk about without ever pulling the phone out of your pocket. It only has 256MB of RAM built-in, but it does have an integrated FM tuner, so for the more mobile among us it could be a slick way to go hands-free.

Now all that's left to do is figure out how to make it dispense candy and music.

Today, I make an iron-clad prediction: by this time next year, you'll be able to get 1.5GB MP3 players at Wal-Mart (or your local indigenous people exploiter of choice) for $50, or free when you sign up for a new Sears card. I mean, these things are just crawling out of the woodwork, like this JNC SSF-M5, which as DAPreview notes, has a sharp resemblance to the recently announced Teac MP-1000. Don't get me wrong, though; I think cheap, disposable 1.5GB players are fantastic. That's about as small as I'd want to go in a player, since I tend to sort of eyeball these by 'album quantity,' and 15-25 is an ample number.

When is Fisher-Price going to get in the game? Disney Electronics, do you still hate me? Because if not, I'd like to see a sub-$100 model pre-loaded with a bunch of your movie soundtracks.
