06/24/2005 06:25 PMCory Doctorow:
Kickass Kung Fu is a video-game in which you use real martial-arts
moves to control an on-screen kung-fu fighter in order to best both
human and AI opponents.
The game takes place on a 5 meter cushioned playfield suitable for
martial arts and acrobatics training. Using custom computer vision
technology, you are taken inside an artificial reality where the
normal laws of physics no longer apply. Your movements are exaggerated
so that you can easily dodge your opponent's bullets by jumping five
meters in the air and landing behind his back. Using the dual
projected screens, one at each end of the playfield, you can also
continue by counter-attacking your stupefied enemy from the behind.

01/22/2004 03:25 AMHyperCard? That's dead, isn't it? Oh, sure, it was great back in the
1980s. So versatile it defies ready definition, HyperCard lets
ordinary people create their own software without having to conform to
the strict rules of a formal programming language. But the last time
Apple updated it (1998), Macs were made out of vacuum tubes and
corncobs. AppleScript Studio and RealBasic, while they're nowhere near
as easy to learn and use, have stepped into HyperCard's role: the
nonthreatening way to write software. But nonprogrammers everywhere
can now rejoice: Revolution 2.1, a HyperCard-compatible development
environment, has come along with enough power to wake the dead.

11/12/2003 01:23 PMHuman Resources people, Managers, and general users, have no idea how
simple or complex computer programming is. They think that they can
just throw programmers around from one task to another, then some HR
people select computer programmers based on language (Syntax), and not
what really matters (skills and abilities). This would be like hiring
an employee based on what school they attended and not what subjects
they studied! This article will give some non-programmers a better
idea of what Programming is about, and what they should be looking for
when hiring programmers.

MATT GALLANT -- World of Warcraft is

tester slots are in short supply. In fact, developer Blizzard is no

But if you never did get around to applying, you can still get a

myself.
World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft
03/14/2005 04:51 PMWorld of Warcraft was one of the most highly-anticipated MMORPGs by
the time it was finally released. Promising a wide variety of
character types, quests, and adventures, it has proven to be a very
popular title. For the first time at Ars Technica, we dispatched one
of our crack game reviewers to an alternate MMORPG universe to immerse
himself in the game and report back on his findings.
Set four years after the events on Warcraft 3, World of
Warcraft immerses you in the legendary lands of Azeroth. Lands filled
to the brim with adventure, peril and fabulous riches (or so the
brochure I got at the airport said).
Along with the strong points of WoW game play, Julian also managed
to find a few annoyances, some of which have the potential to
adversely affect the quality of game play. Do the bugs outweigh the
game's goodness? Check out the review and find out!

02/05/2005 09:19 PMBlizzard Entertainment has finally released the long-anticipated
massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft,
which I previewed in the July 2004 issue. And I'm happy to report that
the finished game pleases on every level. World of Warcraft offers
just about everything you could want in an online world. You can set
out on epic quests; discover a king's ransom in treasure, magic items,
special weapons, and armor; and interact with a parade of player and
nonplayer characters. Along your journeys, you'll come across
beautifully crafted cities, each with its own architecture, and varied
landscapes filled with interesting plants and animals -- many of which
want to feast on your flesh.
