iCompositions on Thursday announced that it has partnered with Bandmateloops to give away another 121 free loops for GarageBand, bringing the total free loops available on the iCompositions Web site to 417. The collections includes acoustic and electric guitar tracks, acoustic and electriconic drums and a variety of synths. The electronic drums come from Bandmateloops' Apple Loops Collection. GarageBand community iCompositions on Thursday announced it has teamed up with AMG, MusicMakingTools and O'Reilly Media to offer more than 200 free GarageBand loops, free QuickTime tutorials and free book excepts to all members in celebration of GarageBand's birthday. The free loops come from AMG's popular loop library as well as some from unreleased packages, and the books excerpts are chapters from GarageBand: The Missing Manual, and iLife: The Missing Manual.

Entrants are asked to craft proposals explaining how they would use the contest's prize -- the domain www.xcodelife.com, Mac OS X v10.3 Server and hosting services consisting of 5GB of drive space, 10GB of bandwidth, 20 e-mail addresses, 10 sub-domains, PHP, WebObjects, CGI and custom-installed software -- in the most creative manner. The company notes that there are no guidelines for entries; ideas mentioned by general manager Saulius Dallide include "a user-friendly Web site for Mac OS X developers, a magazine, a developer mailing list, [or] an open source project." Entries must be received by Sept. 30, however; visit its official Web site for more details.
