Sidebar Communication
06/17/2005 07:11 PM
Hollywood social networks are using IM Status (i.e. Busy, Away) as
a communication
channel (i.e. Status:
Need Work). Excellent idea!
For Dave's Instant Outliner, this could be done very easily so one
could see status
of team members, friends, and family.
For blogrolls, a short status description element can be added to
each feed. Blogroll
has to be live though for this to work. How would it look?
Where you see
the orange XML pseudo-image on my blogroll to the right, you would
see short messages
from the bloggers like Need Work, Help Wanted, In Japan, Sick, or
simply RIP for grave
bloggers.
Note that the status could be little graphics like Sparkline or an
image. Status of
a dog, for example, will be a webcam snapshot.

04/09/2004 04:10 PMSo, I went to the talk on unified garbage collection theory Monday.
I'd like to say it was breathtakingly innovative, filled with
impressive insights, but honestly it was pretty mundane. There wasn't
anything new, though it wasn't a waste of time. The executive summary,
for those who're interested, is that Refcounting and Tracing, as means
of garbage collection, are really the same thing. Or, rather,
opposites of one another--refcounting finds the dead stuff and tracing
finds the live stuff. Which is better for you depends on the
application and your requirements. Slides for this talk are on the
web. Even...

Talking garbage bins, how's that not futuristic coolness?
but how long until they get irritating? (and will they update the
poptune bins monthly?) from the article:
"In a uniquely German mix of hi-tech gadgetry and environmental
awareness, Berlin authorities are installing talking trash cans in
some of the German capital's most popular squares. Pop your litter
into one of the bins and it's liable to say thank you. Or welcome you
to Berlin in English, French or Japanese. Or even sing.
After a successful trial period, 20 of the bins have been installed in
the Zoologischer Garten area of western Berlin's biggest shopping
district and at the bustling business and entertainment hub of
Potsdamer Platz."

Folder Action: MisMatch 1.2
04/14/2004 10:26 PM Mismatch is a folder action that will search files to see if they
contain the MAC.Amphimix [Symantec] virus - Also known as MP3Virus.Gen
[Intego], MAC_MP3CONCEPT.A [Trend]. Mismatch will check any files, or
files contained inside folders, to see if a file's name-extension
corresponds to the file's file type and kind. If it does not meet this
criteria, the script asks the user what they want to do - Either
quarantine the file or Trash the file.

compression of files with its 'Create Archive of ...' this still

then 'cleaning up' the original file and newly created archive.zip. As
