Stem cell research research

Stem cell research research 07/27/2004 11:13 AM

Three links from Bill Koslosky, MD, about stem cell research. I'm running to the Convention and haven't had a chance to actually look at the links, but Bill particularly recommends this one, which "discloses the fact that stem cell research is really not expected to be used as a therapy for Alzheimer's." Also a map and an explanation......

Stem Cell Research

Stem Cell Research 05/31/2004 01:52 PM
The False Controversy of Stem Cell Research. Kinsley: In fact, thinking it through is a moral obligation, especially if you are on the side of the argument that wants to stop or slow this research. It's not complicated. An embryo used in stem-cell research (and fertility treatments) is three to five days past conception. It consists of a few dozen cells that together are too small to be seen without a microscope. It has no consciousness, no self-awareness, no ability to feel love or pain. The smallest insect is far more human in every respect except potential.

Reagan and Stem Cell Research

Reagan and Stem Cell Research 06/06/2004 05:36 PM

I make it a practice to avoid political statements here, but I'm compelled to quote from John Robb's Weblog today:

"Tens of millions of people like Ronald Reagan, continue to fight debilitating diseases like Alzheimers, Parkinsons, and Diabetes. Stem cell research holds the promise of a cure. Bush's fight against stem cell research (he has even tried to ban it globally via the UN), sentences people like Ronald Reagan to years of personal and familial trauma, disolution of dignity, and eventually death. In a right and perfect world, Reagan's death would be the trigger for a well funded push into stem cell research to find a cure for these diseases.
Every day my father fights the effects of Parkinson's, and I'm sickened by those whose vague religious convictions deny the search for a cure. If you're among these people, then you'd better be damn sure you're following God's will rather than your own fear, because otherwise you're condemning people I love to needless pain and suffering.

New Jersey legalizes stem cell research 01/27/2004 10:57 PM
New Jersey has become the second state, after California, to legalize stem cell research: What the law does do, according to Jersey City Assemblywoman Joan Quigley, is allow researchers - private or public - to conduct experiments on stem cells derived from human embryos and to replicate these for continuing research. Under the law, people undergoing fertility treatments can donate unwanted embryos for scientific research. The law also requires doctors to offer the option to potential parents under fertility treatments.
