Motorola V3 "Razor" Reviewed 07/26/2004 02:18 PM

motov3raz.jpg imageMobile-Review has a breakdown of the new Motorola V3 "Razor" phone, an almost all-metal clamshell that surprisingly doesn't forego a lot of features to reach its tiny size. Similar in function to the v600, the titanium-clad V3 is still fairly wide, but manages to remain less than 14mm thin in profile even with lots of built-in features (like Bluetooth).

To launch this September between $650 and $750, this spiritual successor to the StarTac is yet another hot phone from Motorola that manages to waltz into a crowded phone market and instantly make its own segment. It may be small, but I expect sales of the V3 to be big (I can't believe I just wrote that).

m3power.jpg imageShaving is an art. And like most art, or Perl, there's often more than one way to do it. For the last few years, my +3 Wand of Baby's Butting has been the Gillette Mach 3, usually with a very dull blade and lots of steaming foam (helped even more so by my recent installation of this little beauty in the shower). Now ConsumerWhore reviews the latest iteration of Gilette's Mach 3, the M3Power, a lime-green vibrating model that is powered by a AAA battery in the handle. He likes it well enough, not because it shaves more closely, but because it lets him shave faster. And if like mine, your Mach 3 was stolen by the ladyfriend to shave legs, a dual-purposed M3Power will be snatched up soon enough -- be sure to buy two.

The verdict? Well, with the exception of an extraordinarily crappy phonebook application, it looks like a dream. I expect the V3 RaZr to sell out as soon as it hits the streets.

Or at least I think that's what it's about. There isn't a single picture.

The magical Venus razor

The magical Venus razor 06/22/2005 03:01 AM

I am not a fan of disposable razors, they always seemed wasteful to me, and never very good. So a long time ago -- before they made fancy razors for women -- I started using Gillette men's razors. Over the years, I slowly upgraded until I was using the Gillette Mach 3. And I was happy. Until I left it in the shower on Nantucket last week. So I headed to Duane Reade for a new razor and for some reason decided now was the time to try a ladies' razor. The Gillette Venus looked nice and the handle appeared ergonomic and easy to manoveur, so without much thought I bought it. Then I shaved my legs with it.

OH MY GOD!!

What was I thinking using that crappy old Mach 3 for all those years? The Venus is AMAZING! Easy to control, nimble around the ankles, slick and fast up the calf, and above all, smooth! My legs haven't ever felt so smooth after a shave ever! I'm counting the minutes until I can shave again, that's how much I love this razor. It's a triple-mint, double-plus-good, two-thumbs up, five stars and diamonds razor. For sure.

RAZOR & TIE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES LABEL-WIDE PODCAST INITIATIVE

Debut Podcast Features Original Content From Hard Rock Trio Danko Jones

(May 16, 2005 – New York, NY) – Razor & Tie Entertainment today announces a label-wide launch of an ongoing series of podcasts. The company is harnessing the new medium to expose fans to new music from the company’s burgeoning roster and to enable their artists to reach a wider audience. The first podcasts are now available on the company’s website at www.razorandtie.com/label/podcasting/

The launch will also include podcast songs from up-and-coming Razor & Tie rock bands, including New York City’s indie guitar-rockers Sam Champion, Brooklyn’s enigmatic metal band, The Giraffes, and Temecula, CA pop-rockers, The Chemistry with more to come. The site will continuously be updated with exclusive tracks, song debuts, tour diaries and more.

“Razor & Tie has always strived to be at the forefront of new trends in the media,” commented Michael Krumper, SVP Marketing at the label. “By distributing podcasts by our acts, it gives them yet another avenue of self-expression that can connect with new fans in an immediate and unfiltered way.”

The first podcast, entitled “The Danko Jones Road Report” is 6-minute audio program recorded by Danko Jones, lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of the Toronto-based power rock trio of the same name, and offers an unedited look inside the ‘Pandora’s Box’ of a rock band on tour. Similar to the syndicated radio show that Danko hosts in Europe (www.themagicalworldofrock.com), the singer holds forth on his favorite topic – rock’n’roll. The singer’s encyclopedic knowledge of rock music and the many high-profile musicians who drop by their gigs are showcased in the first of this upcoming series of podcasts.

“I liken these podcasts to a phone call home to a friend answering their questions of “what’s up?” and “how’s the tour going?,” Danko Jones comments. “Pretty intimate, me in my hotel room after a gig.”

Danko Jones’ debut US album, WE SWEAT BLOOD, was released in April, 2005 and the lead radio track, LOVERCALL is currently #1 on FMQB’s Specialty Charts and was just added to WYSP, the largest active rock station on the East Coast. As the title of the album suggests, this band is dedicated to performing live – they are currently on the road with Mando Diao and after a short break in June, the band will be back on another full tour of the U.S. starting July 5th.

ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 Reviewed

ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 Reviewed 09/01/2004 12:01 PM

ViperLair reviews the ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0, a sort of low-rent option for those you want to add a TV tuner or video-in to their machines, but would prefer an outboard piece of equipment instead of cracking open their case and dropping in a daughter board. Don't expect huge features out of the $100 brick, though, as the inputs are limited to coax, s-video, and composite - the higher-quality component video is not to be found. On the upside, the inclusion of USB 2.0 in this new model allows it to transfer encoded video to your computer with far less compression than earlier, USB 1.1 models, meaning your signal will travel from outside to your hard drive relatively unscathed, analog warts and all.

For a quick solution, especially for something like a laptop that can't even get a better quality bit of hardware, it's probably worth taking a look at. A "Pro" version should be out soon that includes a remote.

sharpll1513d_rev.jpg imageThere's no doubt that the Sharp LL-151-3D is a cool product—3D displays without any goofy headgear is the double pluses. But are any of you guys actually using them? I can think of a few situations (medical, 3D imaging) where they'd be handy, but the 15-inch size seems a little down market for hot-to-trot medical researchers/Science Officers. And it's too expensive for gaming, costing more than most gaming PCs do in total. Anyway, just curious. There's got to be a way I can justify buying one for work.
