NASA Fired Will Carpenter for writing a short story. "Some kind of harrassment," they said, and since Texas is an at-will employment state, there's not much he can do about it. Is this story a valid means of self-expression or a harrassing glimpse into jilted anger? I've stumbled across more and more news stories about people being fired for writing, and students expelled for writing "dark poetry" in the classroom. How much do you have to keep secret from your classmates and co-workers?

It's The End Of The Road For Windows NT

It's The End Of The Road For Windows NT 12/24/2004 12:25 PM
The clock is winding down on Windows NT, the operating system that propelled Microsoft into the computer server market 11 years ago. The last day Microsoft will provide general support for Windows NT Server 4.0 is Dec. 31, after which companies need custom contracts if they want the safety of Microsoft security fixes and other help. The Windows NT brand was launched in July 1993 with the introduction of Windows NT 3.1, followed by Windows NT 3.5, Windows NT 3.51, and Windows NT 4.0 The operating system became so popular that year-over-year sales were growing at 150% about the time Windows NT Server 4.0 was introduced in August 1996. With the leading market share for server operating systems today, Microsoft's success started with Windows NT.

I'm Back and on the road again

I'm Back and on the road again 08/01/2004 03:21 PM

As you all noticed it was a very light posting week. Quite honestly I needed a break and being back on the job has me coming home completely exhausted. It is hard to believe that my spine injury has had such a dramatic effect on my life, and I suppose I am at odd's with the doctor when he tells me it is going to take 6 months to fully recover. I am back in the Geek Saddle and will be firing away my brainy entries starting now. On another note I fly out to Dallas tonight and will be there for a couple of days then off to Chicago for three days and finally to Maine (a first) for some meetings and will return to Hawaii on the 13th. If you live in Dallas, Chicago, Portland Maine and want to get together drop me a line.
