Scientists Most Value Sales Reps That
Are Knowledgeable, Not Sales-Oriented
02/01/2005 09:20 PM
To scientists, the most valuable laboratory sales representatives are those that make a difference in their research. Rather than just trying to close the deal, these sales reps go a step further and translate performance specifications into a picture of how the product will help the scientist reach his or her goal faster or more efficiently. Life science suppliers that focus on forging such mutually beneficial relationships will be better able to create real value for their customers. [PRWEB Jan 31, 2005]

Record sales up, P2P sales up -- RIAA's
story doesn't add up

Record sales up, P2P sales up -- RIAA's
story doesn't add up
03/24/2005 04:52 PM
Cory Doctorow: According to the RIAA, CD sales are increasing. Now, the RIAA also says that P2P destroys music sales, so it follows that if they're selling more CDs there must be less P2P, right? Uh, no -- file-sharing is up, too (so CD sales should be falling right?).

So is it possible that CD sales and P2P are decoupled (as all the quantitative, independent research indicates), and that the downturn in CD sales is better laid at the feed of bad business, a bad economy, fewer albums and more things competing for entertainment dollars (cough games cough Internet cough).

The number of CDs and other music products shipped from record labels to retail merchants rose 2 percent last year, to 814 million units, the first annual increase in five years, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

"You know, Luke Skywalker was able to kill the Death Star with his beleaguered band of warriors, but I'm not sure that that's the model we should shoot for -- shoot the thing down the middle of the tube and hope it blows up the Death Star. We need to build our own answer to the Death Star.'' The beginning of the end for the Democratic Party, at least in name? (And what will take its place? Is the Republic turning into the Empire?)

Aerial
Google Aerial Photos of Your Home:
I mentioned this already, but it's quite amazing. Use the map view to zero in on your home, or that of family or friends (or any other place) in North America (double-click to re-centre, then use the sliders in upper left) and then click on the 'satellite' button and see how much detail of the whole continent infrared satellite photos have captured. Then zoom back out in satellite mode and feel veeeery small. Dare you to stop at just one.

The Great Lie: A fascinating 27-minute film, free online, inspired by Daniel Quinn's book Ishmael.

The Real News: While the lazy-ass mainstream media have clogged the airwaves all week with the non-news of the late and dreadful pope's funeral, the marriage plans of British royalty, and various celebrities' trials, the deadly Marburg virus, an Ebola relative, has taken its largest and most devastating toll yet. Sooner or later one of these is going to teach us what The Tipping Point was really about. meanwhile the genocide in Darfur continues unabated, with the death toll of innocents reaching Rwanda proportions and an entire village being razed to the ground yesterday. Oh, and you can thank the NRA and the politicians in their back pockets for making it much easier for terrorists, even those on Al Qaida watch lists, to get AK-47s at the local store in your community.
