I'm off to Anguilla -- an island in the British West Indies -- today for some very much needed, albeit brief, vacation. Plans include swimming, sunning, sleeping, snorkeling, and reading. Oh and eating. And that's about it. Items of note in the suitcase include: tank tops; summery skirts; one itsy bitsy teeny weeny green polka dot bikini; a fresh book, Forever (no, not Judy Blume's, Mark Hamill's, just because I'm leaving NYC doesn't mean I shouldn't still be thinking about it!); digital camera; and most importantly, SPF 30.

If reading this makes you jealous, I've just the thing for you: American Airlines sale! Caribbean For As Low As $198 Round Trip. So maybe you too can be doning a tiny green bikini soon as well! Updates will resume next week when I return.

But, take a look at this spectacular video of a guy who uses nothing more than an old overhead projector, some sand, and some simplistic music to create art. Sorry, I could only find a Windows Media version of this. If anyone knows of other formats, please let me know.

Iraq has a lot of oil, estimated at 112.5 billion barrels in proven reserves which is the world's second-largest after Saudi Arabia's. As many as 220 billion barrels are considered probable additional Iraqi reserves. Before the current war, Iraq was producing 2.5 million barrels of oil per day, with only 1.7 million of this output authorized under the U.N. imposed "Oil-For-Food" economic sanctions. At an average price of $25 per barrel, Iraq was making $43 million per day in sanctioned sales and $20 million per day in unsanctioned ones. The United States was the biggest importer of Iraqi crude, importing 366,000 barrels a day directly into the U.S. during December 2002, with an estimated third of Iraqi oil output (800,000+ barrels per day) ultimately ending up in the United States after intermediate processing by third countries. Thus on the eve of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Americans were paying Saddam around $21 million per day or $620 million per month or around $7.5 billion per year. The rest of the world was paying him twice this much for a total of around $25 billion per year. Such "tough" economic sanctions led in some American political circles to (somewhat hypocritically, considering the level of our Iraqi imports) have contempt for the United Nations and concern over the amount of petromoney available for hostile military buildup and WMD and even terrorist bankrolling... And so there was a war.

I received a great spam email today. Apparently it was sent as a multipart MIME message (contains both text and HTML). I have my email client set to display the text part instead of the HTML part when both are available. So instead of the spam, what I saw was a plea to “upgrade” my email client so that I could read his spam.

The e-mail original message was not plain text please use html capable e-mail client program. HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) e-mail messages are with the look and feel of Web pages, instead of plain text. Like Web pages, HTML e-mail message can incorporate formatted text, images and other objects. These objects are not embedded in the e-mail message itself; rather the HTML code in the message makes references to images and other files stored on a remote Web site. New generation of e-mail programs has recently become available that simplify the view of HTML messages. HTML e-mails are more visually appealing and are usually easier to read than plain text messages. In fact HTML e-mail messages allows us to use graphics, color and text formatting to add your usability to the e-mail message. When you open your e-mail message, the HTML code loads the image from the specified URL into the message’s layout. A wedding of linkable Web pages and regular email, HTML email is a growing medium for Internet communications, and it’s getting easier to use. An HTML e-mail is a message that is presented in HTML instead of plain text. This allows control of colors and fonts, and it even allows the inclusion of images in a message. It’s easy to send HTML e-mail from your client. The key is to understand how to form MIME messages.
