Three cheers for Turkey
03/11/2003 01:59 PMCapitol Hill Blue, a
publication I have never heard of, is
reporting that Colin Powell has told Bush that if he presses for
a vote at the UN, "You will lose, Mr. President. You will lose badly
and the United States will be humiliated on the world stage."
According to the article, "Many were watching Turkey," Powell told
Bush. "Had they agreed, it might have helped us sway critical votes."
The article has some other interesting quotes from anonymous from Bush
administration officials. I have no idea if this Powell quote is true,
but if it is, thank goodness for Turkey. It may have rescued us from
our own folly. I guess we will know more tonight.
