Genesis Falls to Earth

Genesis Falls to Earth 09/08/2004 02:10 PM

Space capsule crashes to Earth after chute failure: A few weeks ago we reported on plans to snag the Genesis capsule using helicopter stunt pilot (the post has a picture). Sadly, they never got the chance — the capsule's parachutes never opened and it dropped like a rock.

Retrieval helicopters were supposed to snatch the capsule's parachute with a hook as it floated down at 400 feet a minute, or more than 6 feet per second. But the capsule tumbled out of control. It was supposed to be spinning at 15 revolutions a minute to slice evenly through the atmosphere, but camera images showed it tumbling instead.

Justin falls in love

Justin falls in love 09/06/2004 03:35 AM

Back when I still thbought the web was a silly thing (mainly 'cause HTML really sucks), one of the few moments of Ah Hah came from Cyborganic and a young guy named Justin Hall - who not only came out on the web, but squirted that effervescent stream of life - now known as blogging - more eloquently than a herd of elephant chanting Rasta Fari.

Or shall I say - as a moonbeam wraps her light across the face of my love - after sex?

Or maybe it's - the drunken paramours on the Il de Cite - in front of Baudelaire's Hashish Club - dancing naked, swirling dervishes surrounded by Moorish heads of captured Turks?

Justin defined for me - what it was like to live your life - as a book.

So now - he's gona back to school and.....

And she returns my calls!
I met a gal who makes me want to floss. Just getting out of the house or trading casual touches by telephone. Some thing is happening, an embrocating exercise regimen for a tired heart. Unwitting smiles.

Some moments life seems dimmed without. Other moments I gladly doubletime to finish my duties before she calls and I rush off for a few more hours in suspended smiling animation

time changes, the sky opens, the years beyond now shift into rose-focus, my manhood considered, a new set of smells. senses, other then words.

I'm still behind, in school, in work, my home, in laundry.

France Falls Far Behind Neighbors

France Falls Far Behind Neighbors 12/09/2003 03:51 PM
France has far fewer hotspots than any of its European neighbors: In fact, it's on par with Slovenia in terms of number of hotspots. It seems mostly the government is to blame. One conspiracy theory is that the government stands to benefit from the success of 3G networks so it wants to prevent Wi-Fi from becoming a competitor to those mobile networks. Government mandates, such as one that held until last November that prevented any Wi-Fi coverage outdoors for fear of interference with military operations, surely slowed down build out. Just last summer the government dropped to demand that municipalities get federal permission to hang APs....

Broadband Falls Below £10

Broadband Falls Below £10 04/12/2005 06:10 AM
UK Online has launched Britain's first broadband for under £10 a month. The ISP has cut the cost of its unbundled broadband service, which doesn't run through BT's network. to £9.99 for a 512k connection - that's half the price of BT's own service.

It is also running a 2Mb/s service for £19.99 a month and an 8Mb/s one at £29.99 - something BT doesn't offer. However, the services are only available on a limited number of bigger exchanges - typically those in Britain's major cities. They are offered through Local Loop Unbundling, which allows the ISP to set up its own services directly at the exchange without having to go through the BT Wholesale network.

Chris Stenning, UK Online general manager, said: "LLU enables us to offer more innovative products than our competitors. Our unique 8Mb service has led the way on speed and now we are leading the way on price." A spokesman for BT said: "It all looks good on paper but it's only available to fewer that one in five of the UK population."

Choice (AP)
04/04/2005 08:07 AM
AP - Of all the things that can make a person see red, school principal Gail Karwoski was not expecting parents to get huffy about, well, seeing red. At Daniels Farm Elementary School in Trumbull, Conn., Karwoski's teachers grade papers by giving examples of better answers for those students who make mistakes. But that approach meant the kids often found their work covered in red, the color that teachers long have used to grade work.
