Animated Figures Available In Canada

Animated Figures Available In Canada 05/07/2004 03:24 AM
Even though they are a Target exclusive below the border, the Animated Clone Wars figures seem to be fair game here in Canada. Sadly, the traditional distribution problems here are again preventing Hasbro Canada from getting these little gems into our grubby little hands. The toy company isn’t to blame this time (or so it would seem) since they are currently being solicited on their retailer’s only web site. Thankfully, a North Vancouver toyshop, Big Pete’s, has noticed this oversight and has ordered a large quantity of the line. That being said, Canadians looking to avoid a large secondary market sting and potential Customs charges need only drop Pete a line.

Vodafone Figures Out They Need To
    Encourage 3G Use

Vodafone Figures Out They Need To
    Encourage 3G Use
    07/16/2004 01:59 PM
The various wireless carriers out there have a history of not having the slightest clue when it came to pricing new services. They always hope they can charge a premium for some brand new service. What happens, of course, is very few people buy into it. You get the early adopters, and no one else sees why they should bother. Instead, they need to start realizing that there's a balance. You need to encourage people to actually try the new service. Putting a huge upfront hurdle doesn't help matters. So, it's a bit surprising that Vodafone appears to (maybe? possibly?) have figured this out with their 3G datacard. Instead of putting up a 300 Euro purchase price for the laptop card, they're now selling the card for a single Euro (that's right, one Euro is all it takes). In other words, someone explained to them the concept of a loss leader. Sure, they're losing money on each card sale, but the whole point of having a 3G offering is not for the carrier to make money on selling phones and cards, but off of the service. How else do you encourage people to use the service than to make the upfront hurdle as cheap as possible? It's similar to what they do with subsidized phones, of course, but so far most carriers seemed so focused on how they could charge extra for every bit of the 3G experience that it's still surprising to see this happen. It's a smart move, even if the article goes on and on about how it must mean they're having trouble getting people to adopt the service. New services need promotions and low customer hurdles. That seems to be exactly what Vodafone is going for.

    New Figures At Canadian Wal-Marts

New Figures At Canadian Wal-Marts 01/22/2004 02:13 AM
Though not new by American standards, Canucks jonesing for some fresh figures need to rush over to their local Wal-Mart stores to find the Achk Med-Beq wave. Unlike past assortments, which have sported tri-logo stickers, these figures are shipping on regular American cards. There is no word yet on what sort of quantities have shipped, but it is likely that regular Canadian ordering procedures were followed, leaving very little to go around and little chance of a reorder... then again, with the figures shipping on standard cards, we may see a change in the ongoing figure drought here.

Xeni Jardin: Torn from the vaunted html pages of The Hollywood Reporter:
Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising and McFarlane Toys announced a new licensing agreement to develop a line of action figures based on characters from the hit movie "Napoleon Dynamite." The toy line, which will hit store shelves in the fall, will feature characters Napoleon, Pedro and Kip. "Napoleon Dynamite and action figure may seem like an oxymoron, but McFarlane Toys has the appreciation and understanding of this character and the film to create some truly fun and highly appealing toys," said Peter Byrne, executive vp licensing at Fox Licensing & Merchandising.
