Request for Feature: Firefox: See all
tabs
09/17/2004 12:28 PM
The multiple tab feature of Firefox (and Opera before it) is enough of a reason to drop Microsoft Internet Explorer ... which, apparently, people are doing at an increased pace, although IE still has something like 93% of the market. But I currently have 31 instances of Firefox open, each with 1-4 tabs. So, I'd like an extension that lists all the open tabs in all the open instances. My dream extension would let me jump to any of those tabs. It would also let me close them or close multiple instances with a single click. And it would give...

Feature Request: Secure Google

Feature Request: Secure Google 02/18/2003 01:15 PM
I sent the following to Google’s Suggestions Box:Google should provide access to their website thru HTTPS, the encrypted version of HTTP. This will allow people to search for things on Google without other people on their network or at their ISP being able to see what they search for. Because so many people search for so many things on Google, it’s important that it lives up to the highest privacy standards. Supporting HTTPS would be a large step in the right direction. Doing it would only take a little work on your part (you could just set up a proxy that decrypted connections and passed them on; software and hardware to do this is very readily available), but would do great things to protect the privacy of your users. I hope you’ll consider it. Please let me know if you have any questions....

Longhorn Feature Request: Categorized
Add or Remove Programs List
01/16/2004 01:02 PM

One thing that annoys me about XP is it's Add or Remove Programs list.  It just gets really crowded over time as more and more software gets installed and, well, gets to a point where it is easier not to uninstall some unused program because it's tedious to locate it in the list.  Windows Update doesn't help either because every update gets added to the list as well.

Please add categorized view for the list so we don't have to see applications, development tools and components, gadgets, utilities, and patches next to each other.  While you are at it, add Recently Installed category as well and place it at the top of the categorized view.  Oh, yes.  Entries should be able to appear in multiple categories.  As far as taxonomy is concerned, I can live with one Microsoft dictates.

Trusting the ballot

Trusting the ballot 01/09/2004 09:53 PM
According to an article in yesterday's Miami Herald: In Tuesday's special election to fill state House seat 91, 134 Broward voters managed to use the 2-year-old touch-screen equipment without casting votes for any candidate... The percentage of nonvotes — 1.3 percent — is modest compared to the days of ''hanging'' and ''pregnant chads.'' But in Tuesday's race, every vote was crucial. In a seven-candidate field, Ellyn Bogdanoff beat Oliver Parker by just 12 votes. The non-votes may be due to Democrats entering the voting booth only to discover that there were no Democrats on the ballot. But the mere suspicion...
