Apple was criticized when the iTunes Music Store first launched in the UK, France and Germany in June because of the absence of independent music. That changed on Wednesday when Apple said that it has signed licensing agreements with three major European independent music labels; the agreement adds tens of thousands of additional tracks from leading independent artists to the service's UK, French and German stores.

Apple have signed agreements with 3 prominent indie labels in the UK. Beggars Group, Sancutary Records and V2 have signed agreements to release tens of thousands of songs from their back catalogues onto the iTunes Music Store. A welcome move, if a tad overdue.

Apple has signed licensing agreements with three of the largest European independent music labels, Beggars Group, Sanctuary Records Group and V2, adding tens of thousands of additional independent tracks from leading artists to the iTunes Music Store in the UK, France and Germany. iTunes Music Store customers in Europe now have access to independent artists including Basement Jaxx, Crystal Method, Interpol, Libertines, Morrissey, Pixies, Prodigy, Stereophonics, Paul Weller and White Stripes. Apple and Sundance Channel have announced a deal that will make the network's content exclusively available as podcast downloads from the Apple iTunes Web site, according to AdAge.com. The Al Franken Show will be one of the first available iTunes podcasts for download from Sundance Channel, with a collection of clips from the show also available for streaming from Apple's website. “For us Apple is absolutely a like-minded brand in the way they position themselves,” Sundance's senior vice president for marketing Kirk Iwanowski said. “We like the idea of identifying a like-minded consumer brand and partnering with them from a programming and marketing standpoint.”
