One of my biggest criticisms of Microsoft's Portable Media Center platform has been that there's really nothing to watch. You could download a few B-list movies from CinemaNow and Major League Baseball games or copy stuff from your Windows Media Center PC, but if you wanted to put anything else on the device, you had to transcode your video to Windows Media Video format (a hassle I will, perhaps unfairly, put up with in the PSP, but not in a device with the primary purpose of playing back video).

Thankfully, Microsoft has finally launched MSN Video Downloads, the long-promised service to provide daily-updated content for easy download and syncing to your Portable Media Center. I haven't used it, but glancing over the content list looks somewhat promising—enough so that the $20-a-year subscription fee is probably worth it, if you've already dropped $400 on a PMC (and the content works on Pocket PCs, as well).

RSS Sync is a Pocket PC 2003 ActiveSync Extension. It synchronizes RSS/RDF news to your PDA - effectively creating an offline newsreader. The sync program updates RSS data at scheduled intervals. Data is then synchronized to the PDA, where it can be viewed in the RSS Viewer aggregator. The headlines are stored in a small database on the PDA, so you can carry the information with you anywhere and examine it without being connected on the internet. When a link to a website is provided with the RSS article, you can activate it and be redirected to a web-browser, which connects and retrieves the web-site online.

Cory Doctorow: Various PSP blogs and message-boards are carrying the news that you can share a single cartridge for multiplayer play by letting the game load in a PSP, removing the cart, and passing it on.

...[Y]ou do need to let the 1st PSP completely load into the game, and then only can you remove the game to place it into the second unit. Now on the second unit go to ad-hoc mode and find the server that is already started. Enter the game, which means load it, and now you can remove the disc if you wish to add a third or fourth unit into the game.

Earlier this year a company called Pocket PC Films announced a plug-and-play cartridge for watching videos and listening to music on the Game Boy Advance. At the time they said it would use SD memory cards, which meant you could just transfer files from your PC and later watch them on your GBA, but now they're backtracking a bit about what you'll be able to do with the Pocket Cinema Player. They've ditched the SD card slot altogether, and instead the adapter, which is due out in May of next year, will use special 3-inch discs and a proprietary video format. Cory Doctorow: The Matrix Online (a massively multiplayer online game based on the Matrix franchise) has hired a troupe of 20 actors to hang around in game and in character, advancing the story and generally making it all seem more disbelief-suspendingly real.

Since the close of the beta, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that it has employed a troupe of 20-odd people whose job it will be to enact narrative scenarios in The Matrix Online live. These people will assume the roles of popular characters, interact with players, and generally move the stories in ways that only live "actors" can. And though it appears that the story hasn't officially commenced, a few players on the Method server were treated to a pretty slick sample of it this afternoon: an extended pep-talk by none other than Morpheus himself. (See the screenshots for proof.) But this is an Out of the Box report, so here are our first impressions of the game so far.
