An Online 360 Degree Program that
Provides An Assessment Of A Manager’s
Leadership Skills As Perceived By Others
03/17/2005 02:52 AMAn effective leadership development program should include an
assessment of a manager’s strengths and weaknesses by the people they
work with. Perception equals fact so knowing how others evaluate the
manager’s skills helps bring focus to the leadership areas needing the
most development. [PRWEB Mar 15, 2005]

08/27/2004 01:47 PMCongrats to Roland and Boris and.....
They've just launched Bryght -
a Drupal hosting service. I hung out with these guys a bit when I was
in Vancouver and they're certainly a compelling reason for moving
there.
Vancouver is hot.
Here's Roland's post....
Our latest venture is Bryght, a hosted Drupal
service, "the Salesforce.com of community content". I am working with
Boris, Richard, Adrian and James on this
one. Yes, we are all Bryght
guys :-) !
We have taken Drupal and combined it with web hosting and email to
give you a one stop shop for your community content. No IT required,
no muss, no fuss! Check out The lights are on at
Bryght for more background on how this started. And if you know
of an individual, organization or company that could use a Bryght
site, please contact us.
Whither StreamLine you might ask?
StreamLine continues and it will continue to resell Blogware blogs because we
still believe that Blogware is the best individual blogging
platform.

02/11/2004 09:36 PM Lily Cheng from Microsoft Research is talking about how people
represent themselves on line. The closer the friends, the fuzzier they
want the representations. We need to make social tools fluid enough to
account for the way people's lives change. We need easy access to
friends and people important to us. We want sponatenous interactions.
Lily's group went to a mall and asked people to draw their social
interactions, and gots lots of circles and lines. Microsoft studied
this and built a "personal map" that clusters people based on who they
send email to (TO and CC) and how...

07/27/2004 03:00 PMI've been using MoinMoin, a python based
wiki because I thought I'd be able to hack it since I was learning
python. It turns out that I haven't had any time to hack MoinMoin and
frankly, it looks too difficult for me. The SocialText (I'm an investor and
on the board) wiki software has become quite stable with some cool
features so I've decided to switch my main wiki from Moin Moin to
SocialText. The question I have is whether I should migrate pages from
my old wiki and whether I should continue running the old wiki. If I
am going to migrate the pages, another question is how to move the
pages... Anyone have any thoughts?
[Joi
Ito]
I've been waiting for this to happen. Software needs professioanls
to support it. This is the secret viral strategy of open source
software. Once people start using it - they're hooked.
I knew that the open, unsupported Wiki Joi had - would someday HAVE
to switch to SocialText.
Congrats to Ross and Pete et al.
Now (along with the LobbyCon
Wiki) - I'm up to 7 SocialText Wikis.

Spolsky's Link Fu
Spolsky's Link Fu
04/03/2005 11:54 PMI love reading Joel
Spolsky. The guy is so smart it makes your eyes water sometimes.
I just read his five-part series on The Road
to FogBugz 4.0. It was actually just so-so for Spolsky, but
that's still really good for anyone else.
What's great about this stuff is the wicked link-fu he always has
going on. Here are almost a half-dozen links I extracted from this
series, any one of which could make a post all by itself.
A Plan for
Spam. This is the original 2002 essay by Paul Graham that put
Bayesian analysis and spam filtering together, and led to the most
effective tool against spam we have these days.
Hugarian notation - it's my turn now. This is a great essay
about Apps Hungarian notation and why Spolsky claims it's the only
way to write code.
Brainf**k. An
actual programming language with a 200 byte compiler and a name could
couldn't repeat to your mother.
Larkware. A seemingly
excellent site about programming by Mike Gunderloy, who wrote this book. Spolsky wrote
the forward, which is reprinted he
re.
The
Hazards of Hiring. Yet another essay on how to manage staffing
levels in a small company (something we're struggling with right
now).
