Pepper Pad 2

Pepper Pad 2 09/08/2004 10:24 AM

pepper2.jpg imageI'm going to have to put the Pepper Pad 2 down as a "Huh, weird," product. A 624MHz Linux-based tablet PDAesque machine with a split QWERTY keyboard? It could be the best interface ever and I don't think anybody would want to buy it. It does, at least, have built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as a healthy 8.4-inch screen, but just look at that thing. It's too huge to throw in your pocket and too ugly to leave sitting around the house.

A Brief Primer on Black Pepper

A Brief Primer on Black Pepper 06/15/2004 10:07 AM
Black pepper is a spice that nearly everybody in the world takes for granted. It has been a culinary staple in the eastern tropics for eons, and indeed for the last several centuries the entire civilised world. The most wealthy of Romans were known to have seasoned their exotic cuisine with liberal amounts of pepper. Black pepper can be found in almost any savory dish as has become custom of fine cookery during the Renaissance, particularly in the arts of French and Italian cooking. But what do you really know about our dear friend, the spice affectionately known as black pepper?

scorpion_gun.jpg imageLike its namesake, the Scorpion 200 is a plastic combination device that shoots a blinding blast of pepper spray at attackers from up to six feet away, then provides a shocking 200,000 volt sting to anyone still making threatening moves. And like the majestic desert creature itself, the Scorpion also takes refillable liquid shot cartridges and can be purchased for around $130, if you can make it through the product copy ("Evil lurks in the darkest places.") without soiling yourself -- another great defense mechanism, let me tell you.

Hot pepper spray reverses "permanent"
loss of smell

Hot pepper spray reverses "permanent"
loss of smell
04/12/2004 03:34 PM
The cold remedy Zicam (which I swear by) has been under attack for possibly causing permanent anosmia (loss of the sense of smell). But a new product on the market called sinus Buster, made from capsaicin (the ingredient that makes chili peppers hot) might reverse anosmia when you squirt it up your nose.
"When my husband ordered the sinus buster over the internet I was skeptical. But I said okay I’ll give it a try. As soon as we got it I used it that night and the next day I noticed I could smell certain odors. I couldn't believe it. The first thing I smelled was my daughter coming home after a night of partying, and I could smell cigarette smoke all over her. I had to bring her coat out to the garage because the smoke odor was so strong. Then my daughter told me that’s how she always smells after going out, but I never smelled the smoke before. It's absolutely amazing," Anderson added.
I've always had a pretty bad sense of smell. Maybe I should give this stuff a try. Link

Mushroom & Pepper Extracts May Fight
Chronic Arthritis Pain & Much More

One small research company in upstate New York is betting on Mother Nature to find an all around cure for chronic pain. SiCap Industries manufactures a line of “Capsaicin” based natural health products aimed at the (Sinus, Headache, Cosmetic, and Weight Loss) markets. Capsaicin is a natural chemical produced by hot pepper plants of the “Capsicum” variety. SiCap will soon be unveiling a brand new capsaicin product that incorporates medicinal mushroom extracts along with capsaicin aimed at relieving chronic pain for millions of Americans. Furthermore, the company is researching the cancer fighting potential of mushroom & pepper compounds. [PRWEB Jan 3, 2005]

Chinese Movie Industry Recognizes Movie
Watching Is A Social Experience

Chinese Movie Industry Recognizes Movie
Watching Is A Social Experience
03/22/2005 05:03 PM
Yesterday we noted that the MPAA and movie theater owners were whini ng about how much people coming in an taping movies was hurting their business. The obvious response, we pointed out, is to recognize that going to the movies is a social experience. It's not just about the content (though, that is important), but the overall experience. If they improved that, then people would want to go -- even if they could score the same movie off the internet or a cheap DVD bought off the street. While the folks in Hollywood refuse to entertain this idea, someone (anonymously) in the comments to that story pointed to an article in China noting that this is exactly what Chinese movie theaters have done. After years of declining attendance, they finally shaped up and made going to the movies cool again. They improved the overall experience, putting in better equipment and more comfortable seats. They improved the sound and the lighting as well. It sounds like they also made some theaters to be more like bars, to help attract young adults away from traditional bars. Yet the supposedly "creative" movie people in Hollywood insist "nothing can be done" to get people into the theater.

Six months ago, SiCap Industries consisted of a tiny lab in a dark basement in Schenectady, New York. Today SiCap is being recognized as a leader in the "headache and sinus" business. This unlikely "little company that could" has produced one of the most important medical breakthroughs ever known, and according to many medical professionals, they may have stumbled onto a potential cure for chronic headaches and sinus conditions.
