12/18/2003 04:51 PMI've written a small C# app to use the WSDL
that Randy has been writing/coordinating. A few small changes
to the WSDL were required to get this to a clean compile (try
compiling the app with the original WSDL to see what was needed,
then try this one). On top of that, a bit more changes were
required to get it to produce a recognizable request. The
latter changes are the subject of this blog entry.

03/11/2003 11:53 AMClemens
Vasters:
Why I want WSDL to die. I agree in principle
with the sentiments expressed in this excellent rant. It is the
execution and details that things become problematic. What actually
concerns me more that the (valid, IMHO) irritations that Clemens so
eloquently describes is the process of getting consensus and
widespread adoption of any new format.
There also is one important aspect that Clemens seems to have
overlooked, which I will generically refer to as bindings. When
doing SOAP using XML over HTTP, a URI and a SOAPAction are
required. Non HTTP and non pointy-bracket serializations of the XML
Infoset should also be supportable. A concrete example: a binary
message sent over MQSeries may be a vital part of a flow of
business process.

04/14/2004 07:57 AMSpent most of yesterday evening wandering aimlessly in the local IKEA,
having a Tyler Durden moment. It all looked so ugly, and... empty.
Void of all emotions. Like a cage, built of warm colors and gentle
wood.
My hair is now orange-ish. The hairdresser next to the office said
that it was good to do something else than always the plain, average
cut to the plain, average engineers.
Perhaps this all is fighting, refusal to become average.
Maybe it is futile, and I am just lying to myself.

Soap Carving
03/08/2004 11:04 PM
What ever happened to
soap carving? Soap carving has been around a long time,
and is
often quite beautiful,
detailed or
arresting. Still, it's surprising
how often it's still suggested as a
fun activity for kids, despite the involvement of sharp
utensils. For
more than 25 years,
Ivory soap ran a national soap-carving contest as a
public relations stunt created by the father of PR,
Edward L.
Bernays.
