The Emperor's Mahjong
The Emperor's Mahjong
04/19/2004 12:18 AMWhat you're really getting when you buy The Emperor's Mahjong are the
story mode, two-player mode, and the ability to make your own layouts.
I hardly think this is worth $20, unless you really like Chinese
proverbs and want to become Emperor of China. By Erica Marceau,

On The Emperor's Animals...
10/29/2003 12:10 AMSo here's a concept for a new Typepad weblog, inspired by the
quirky and immensely pleasing post categories on a friend's weblog.
The concept is called The Emperor's Animals and is basically a
collection of funny animal links and stories from around the web. The
site is designed to resemble 18th/19th Century illustrated guide to
fabulous beasts and uses as post categories the The Celestial
Emporium of Benevolent Knowledge typology of animals outlined in
Jorge Luis Borges' The Analytical
Language of John Wilkins. Please please will someone make
this. I'd read it every day! Just in case you don't know them
off-by-heart already, these categories are:
- belonging to the Emperor
- embalmed
- trained
- pigs
- sirens
- fabulous
- stray dogs
- included in this classification
- trembling like crazy
- innumerable
- drawn with a very fine camelhair brush
- et cetera
- just broke the vase
- from a distance look like flies

The Emperor's New
Hump In the weeks leading up to the November 2 election, the New
York Times was abuzz with excitement. Besides the election itself, the
paper’s reporters were hard at work on two hot investigative projects,
each of which could have a major impact on the outcome of the tight
presidential race.
One week before Election Day, the Times (10/25/04) ran a hard-hitting
and controversial exposé of the Al-Qaqaa ammunition
dump—identified by U.N. inspectors before the war as containing 400
tons of special high-density explosives useful for aircraft bombings
and as triggers for nuclear devices, but left unguarded and available
to insurgents by U.S. forces after the invasion.
On Thursday, just three days after that first exposé, the paper
was set to run a second, perhaps more explosive piece, exposing how
George W. Bush had worn an electronic cueing device in his ear and
probably cheated during the presidential debates.

with all this competition, the only thing really distinguishes this
game from the others is the Indiana Jones name. By Kirk Hiner

Semacode is an interesting

old idea reborn yet again (remember the Cat fiasco?) to take
advantage of increasing
number of camera phones to link real world to the
cyberspace. Check it

What's in a code name?
What's in a code name?
04/09/2004 03:55 PMWhile most technology companies do not have official policies on how
they create product code names, they are almost always dreamed up by
engineers with the understanding that the code names will be for
internal use only. This is because employers know that a popular code
name can help engineering teams build an emotional attachment to the
product.

P2P in 15 Lines of Code
12/24/2004 12:46 PMThanks to Thomas for this Link. For all of your programming buff's
check this out.
"TinyP2P is a functional peer-to-peer file sharing application,
written in fifteen lines of code, in the Python programming language.
I wrote TinyP2P to illustrate the difficulty of regulating
peer-to-peer applications. Peer-to-peer apps can be very simple, and
any moderately skilled programmer can write one, so attempts to ban
their creation would be fruitless."
