I totally agree with Om - Yahoo is

I totally agree with Om - Yahoo is
coming back - strong
03/28/2005 08:45 AM

OK - from my own experiences and POV I can say this:

- Media RSS is the leadership we need in media, subscribing and the web. That's what podcasting needs. We're gonna support it in ourmedia.org and we hope others will too.

- Russell Beattie has been helping out in an organization now called Mobile Monday. He brings clear leadership in mobile to Yahoo - just by his sheer presence.

- Jeremy Zawodny is one of those bloggers who groks it all, has a great day job and smirks his way all the way to the A-list. The best part is that he's got a viewpoint that Yahoo is starting to listen to.

- Then came a Terry Semel quote: "sure we'll make a lot of money off of Hollywood, but we'll make more money off of end-users content."

So I'm digging more on Yahoo every day. I've been using MyYahoo since the 2nd month it was available. We'll always make sure that Yahoo data will flow through OUR Digital Lifdestyle Aggregators (DLAs) - as long as they allow the data to flow. It would be nice to have APIs to ALL the stuff - BTW dudes......

And just the notion of Stewart, Caterina and Ben roaming the hallways of Yahoo brings a smile to my lips like an acid trip multi-player rave insider's game meets astro-boy right next door to Lockheed kind of scene.

So right on t o Om - once again - he's rocking the house and telling it like it is......

Cory Doctorow: Alice is starting to really get somewhere in Star Wars Galaxies, but she's on the horns of a dilemma. She was a Brit early adopter who joined the original US server, and amassed a some moderate game-wealth -- but found the game to be high-latency and sparsely populated because so many of the American players were asleep when she was online. Now SWG is offering to relocate her to the European server -- which will be faster and better-populated -- but she has to leave her game-wealth behind.
[T]he SOE team are now offering account transfers - as a premium purchase. 30 bucks to move your character to a different server, but all assets (my bike!!) would remain behind. So I could move to a European server and have better luck at finding people awake, or I could stay in the US and play with the hardcore.

New UK Competitive Directory Services
Give You Wrong Number 40% Of The Time

New UK Competitive Directory Services
Give You Wrong Number 40% Of The Time
11/17/2003 03:08 PM
Directory assistance services are pretty straightforward. Someone asks for the phone number of a person or business they're trying to reach, and the service gives them the phone number. There certainly is a lot of data to manage, and working through similar names is definitely an issue - but you'd still think, on the whole, that if you call a directory service system you're more likely than not to get the right number. It turns out in the UK, where they've just deregulated their directory service system it's true that you'll get the right number more often than not - but just barely. In a large test of the various directory services providers, 38% of callers were not given the right number. Ouch. And 20% of those not served properly couldn't get a refund. Of course, in a competitive situation, you would think that the services that can't get the job done would get weeded out pretty quickly by word of mouth.

Will Mini iPods Delete Bigger iPods?

Will Mini iPods Delete Bigger iPods? 01/07/2004 06:38 PM
Well, as every other tech site in the world is now telling you, the not-so-secret rumors that Apple was coming out with a "mini iPod", cleverly named "iPod mini" are completely true. The other big story people are focusing on are that Apple has gotten past their Henry Ford-style color options, and will offer the iPod mini in multiple colors. You can read all the details at other sites, but in looking over the stories about the device, I'm wondering if the iPod mini will replace the iPod itself as the popular music device of choice. Personally, I don't own an iPod or any portable digital music player (I barely have any digital music - so buying such a device would only mean I need to rip all my CDs, which is a project I'm still not ready to bother with). Still, the iPod mini seems to make a lot more sense to me than many other portable music devices. The early MP3 players had way too little memory, but once you get up into the 4 gigabyte range, I wonder how much more some people need. Historically, of course, that's a dangerous viewpoint to take - since we've always figured out ways to fill up empty storage space. With Apple even advertising games, calendars and other iPod apps - you can imagine that the memory will go. However, if I were in the market for such a device, I'd definitely go with the mini iPod version right now: it's a better size for carrying around and it's "good enough" in terms of storage space - not to mention that it's cheaper. Thus, while I'm sure there are some people who simply need to have more storage space, I'm wondering if this mini iPod will steal marketshare away from its big brother.

I'm a child of the 80s and I take great pride in it. I've always scored above average on the various "80s purity test" sites. As a result, I have a particular fondness for the popular music of the 80s--especially the one-hit wonders that seemed to make up a fair amount of the Billboard charts. One of the few local radio stations that I can tolerate (there are exactly four) has been playing only 80s music this weekend, calling it...
