Apple Plays Nice, Announces New iMac
Early; Details Slim
07/02/2004 08:20 AM

imac_flat.jpg imageApple has announced that new iMacs are in the pipe, this time using G5 processor and a completely new redesign. Rumors indicate the new design, which will be unveiled in September, will shove most of the logic hardware behind the flat panel display. As usual, we welcome any insight or pictures or stolen plans from Steve Jobs's nightstand.

And against form, this information comes from Apple themselves, who made an announcement on their website detailing that the existing stock of iMacs would not be replenished, and that plans to push out new units had slipped behind. It's a commendable move, and one Apple should be applauded for taking. Likely, Apple had planned to announce the new iMac at WWDC, but was unsure about unit production. MacMinute adds the tidbit that Jobs may have dropped a clue at WWDC when he used the search terms "iMac" and "Paris" to demonstrate new search technology. Apple Expo is scheduled this September in Paris.

So here's a nice little Exposé trick that some of you might not have found yet. Press F9 or F10 to show either all the windows you have open or only your current apps windows. Now press TAB to cycle through to the grouped windows of the next app you have open. You can keep pressing TAB to bring each set of app windows into focus. If you know what app you're after, you can Apple-TAB to bring up the app-switcher and choose it directly. Have you found any nice little bits of functionality yet?

Nice hidden Panther feature

Nice hidden Panther feature 10/31/2003 04:03 PM

According to this you can share image capture devices like scanners and cameras with image capture in Panther. I just tried it myself, and although my iSight doesn't show up as a capture device (which would make it a pretty cool webcam), my mounted compact flash card from my digital camera does. I poked a hole in my firewall and just showed a few friends some photos I just took, but haven't downloaded yet to my mac.

Very cool hidden feature.
