Lou Reed is another artist that should check out the Recombo
license. Here's a great quote from him about his most recent
recordings being remixed in this story:
"I've been getting all these great mixes sent to me out of
the U.K. for years and years," he told Attitude magazine, "and I just
started saying to the record company, 'Look, I really, really love
what they are doing.' I think that my record company was a little
taken aback but, genuinely, if I could make that type of music then I
would. If I could master the equipment then I would love
to.
Lou Reed wants remixes07/15/2004 03:20 AM Lou Reed has endorsed remixing of his work -- he should adopt a
Creative Commons remix license to legalise it!

I've got my own studio set up."
ReMixes: What the Web was for04/09/2004 04:06 PM As FreeCulture (the
movement -- nothing to do with me) points out, one weakness to the web
that would nag Ted Nelson is the inability easily and always to point
directly to a part of the text on a webpage. Tre
vor Smith has solved that with Free Culture, the book. Here's a version of the book with each paragraph
linked to an href. Very cool.

[pdf] Ralph Reed05/24/2004 05:17 PM Ralph Reed (here and here) was the creator of the Christian Coalition
and is currently the SE Regional Chairman for Bush-Cheney '04. As a
result of the new technology, we are turning to the politics of an
earlier time — face to face, neighbor to neighbor. The stakes
are high and the ideological divide is more even than since the 1880s.
Also, we've lost confidence in the dominant media. Howard Greenstein:
What do you mean by grassroots? You seem to talk about grassroots and
what receives messages from the center. Reed: MoveOn.org tried doing
bottom up and ended up...

More 'We the Media' Remixes08/09/2004 07:57 AM The remixing of the book is taking interesting new forms, all
permitted because it's published under a kind of Creative
Commons license permitting non-commercial use, so long as the work
is credited and is made available under the same license. Examples of
the remixes:

You (and your company) got where it is via innovation, chutzpah and
lots of luck.
You were the first to fiure out the balance between meatspace and
cyberspace in regards to content-on-demand.
Congrats!
But now I hear that you're doing a me-to movie download play and
I'm sorry - that's just not enough!
You REALLY need to think seriously about what value added you can
offer that will differentiate your downloading service from the rest
and how your brand and customer base can be best leveraged.
And being a me-too copycat ain't that.
You collaborative filtering sucks and we (your loyal customers)
have been eagerly awaiting the time when you get a clue about that.
Wal-mart and Blockbuster are gonna kick your ass - unless you stay
out ahead of the curve.
An interview with Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, on VOD,
online delivery and others issues.
On online delivery: "We're focused on downloading to your TV, over
the Internet, and that's about all we've said to date. The big
advantage we have is that mixing it with DVD, customers can get
unlimited DVDs and unlimited downloads under one subscription."

David Reed on Kerry on Tech06/25/2004 05:14 PM David Reed is underwhelmed by Kerry's tech proposals. Excerpt: If
Kerry's team could understand that the issue should not be about
allocating "spectrum" but instead about encouraging open wireless
networking for scalable and interoperable systems (a wireless
equivalent of the original goals of the Internet), he could really
have an impact, and create a worthy challenge whereby America could
lead the world....

Reed Decides to Retire From Microsoft Board09/20/2004 09:30 PM Microsoft Corp. today announced that Wm. G. Reed Jr., former chairman
of Simpson Investment Company, has decided not to seek re-election to
Microsoft’s board of directors at the company’s November
shareholder meeting. Reed’s decision was prompted by his desire to
begin limiting his business commitments and spending more time on
personal matters. Reed joined the Microsoft board in October 1987.
David Bowie Encouraging Remixes Of His Music04/26/2004 01:09 PM While EMI and the Beatles flipped out about the whole Grey
Album mess, where a DJ remixed Beatles songs with the latest
vocals from Jay-Z, some musicians are realizing this is a good
way to get more attention. David Bowie (who was very early on in
embracing new internet technologies) is actually running a contest encouraging people to remix his songs
with vocals from other singers. His website even offers
up downloadable tools to help people out.

Porn art-remixes part deux: Safe For Work05/30/2004 01:45 AM
Those
French "pornotuning" remixes aren't the first time someone with a
pinch of snark and a penchant for pr0n got jiggy with Photoshop. For
instance, this somethingawful riff from a couple of years back: "Make
Porn Work-Safe." Results included the bizarre goatse-esque mashup shown
here, which suggests a rollicking three-way between Man Ray, Terry
Richardson, and Betty Crocker. BoingBoing reader Phil points us to the
archived gallery and says, "Basically, they hacked pornopix just
enough to make them (at least theoretically) safe for work."
