When you're Luke Skywalker, the star of the Original Trilogy Collection, just one figure will not be enough to satisfy demand, especially when you have so many cool outfits to choose from. Today's Photo Archives update features one outfit from each film: the X-Wing Pilot gear, the Bespin Gear, and the outfit of the Jedi Knight. All have been released before, but they have been brought back in special packaging and spiffy new paint applications.

Today's Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives update features the vehicles of the Rebel Alliance. For space combat missions, nothing beeats the X-Wing Fighter for aerial dogfights. Luke Skywalker's Red Five X-Wing Fighter has earned a place of honor for delivering the final blow against the Death Star. But when fighting an atmospheric battle on cold-weather planets, the Rebel Snowspeeder works best, especially when combatting AT-ATs.

Vintage Photo Archives: Rebel Commando 12/03/2003 01:50 AM
Strange how Kenner considered it integral that the Star Wars line had two different Bespin Security Guards for better army building, yet some how figured that having only one Rebel Commando was acceptable for the Trilogy’s final ground battle. Whatever the toy maker’s reasons were, at least today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive had his trusted pal Prune Face and no less than eight Ewoks to help a pitiful little band defeat an entire legion of the Emperor’s best troops.

Photo Archives Update: OTC Cardbacks 09/02/2004 12:05 PM
It's all about the packaging with the Original Trilogy Collection this year. Not only do we get the cards we've always wanted to buy, but we also get the cards the toy designers have always wanted to make! As I've been getting luckier with my toy hunts recently, I've been scanning in the cardbacks to show off the great backgrounds that are part of this line. I don't have them all yet, but what I have scored has been added to our Photo Archives today.

05/17/2004 02:54 AM
Continuing our series of updates to our Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives, we go all the way back to the beginning of the line to one of the first figures. Han Solo (Stormtrooper Outfit) was available exclusively as a mail-in offer from Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal beginning in the summer of 1995. And because you can never have too many Stormtroopers in your action figure army, look for the Deluxe Crowd Control Stormtrooper as well, one of the first Expanded Universe figures in the line long before the term was even used.

POTF2 Photo Archives Update: Bootlegs 06/18/2004 04:51 AM
Before we finish up our Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives series of updates, we open up a new section of unofficial Bootleg figures. Based on the early waves, these figures have bad paint jobs, incorrect colors, and generic cardbacks. But they do make for a fun addition to my collection. This gallery is by no means complete, and if the interest is there, we may add more of these in the future.

POTF2 Photo Archives Update: Droids

POTF2 Photo Archives Update: Droids 06/01/2004 10:32 AM
Today's update to our Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives focuses on the various mechanical beings found in the Star Wars universe...Droids! They come in all shapes and sizes, performing a variety of functions, and usually make life easier for their creators. Protocol droids such as C-3PO are invaluable when dealing with aliens. Injured lifeforms can always count on medical droids like 2-1B to speed their recovery. The ASP-7 Droid is equipped for menial labor, usually at local spaceports. The RA-7 series Death Star Droid was mostly used for spying missions, along with the small MSE-6 series "mouse droid." And every pilot needs a good astromech droid, like R5-D4, although it's a good idea to check their motivators.

POTF2 Photo Archives Update: Playsets

POTF2 Photo Archives Update: Playsets 06/06/2004 12:32 AM
Today's update in our Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives features something that we don't see much of these days: playsets! Complete with action features, projectiles, and footpegs to hold various 3¾" figures, collectors can re-create scenes from the Classic Trilogy. Free the princess during the Detentio n Block Rescue and swing to freedom in a daring Death Star Escape from A New Hope. When winter comes, head outside and set up in the snow for a Hoth Battle from The Empire Strikes Back. Take a trip to the woods and break into the shield generator bunker in an Endor Attack from Return of the Jedi. While not the most movie-accurate, these playsets do provide an interesting way to display your collection.

POTF2 Photo Archives Update: Han Solo 05/18/2004 02:49 PM
Today's update to our Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives shows the different sides of the captain of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo. Whether he's hard at work with his Smuggler Flight Pack, negotiating a deal with Jabba the Hutt, flirting with Princess Leia on Cloud City, or just kicking back in the Millennium Falcon CD-ROM Playset, the hard-working Corellian is just shows how busy the life of a scoundrel can really be.

When the Empire strikes back, it doesn't hold back. Today's Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives update focuses on General Veers' Blizzard Force assault squad. None can stand against the mighty Imperial AT-AT Walker, skillfully piloted by the AT-AT Driver team of highly-trained troops. Running Assisting the strike force is the Imperial AT-ST, or Scout Walker, which can cover more ground in half the time. Locating the rebel scum can be tricky, however, so a deluxe Probe Droid is sent out to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, providing long-range scanning.

For today's Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives update, we travel back to the desolate desert world of Tatooine, where getting off the planet is hard, but getting around on the planet is a little easier with the right vehicle. For travelling across the Dune Sea, many moisture farmers use a Landspeeder. For short flights through Beggar's Canyon, the young wannabe pilots often fly a T-16 Skyhopper, which has controls similar to that of other spacecraft and is perfect to bullseye womp rats.

After The Phantom Menace was released, a new line of figures with Commtech chips from A New Hope also came out, featuring updated versions of some classic characters, many of which have already been spotlighted. A new version of Princess Leia was made, who recorded a secret message inside R2-D2 and charged him to seek out an old ally. A 2-pack of Jawa and Gonk Droid was also released, featuring a pair of updated characters. The only new character in the line was Admiral Motti, who became a believer after he felt the power of the dark side of the Force.

The often-drunk Saelt-Marae trades information with his allies, Malakili takes care of Jabba's pet Rancor, a bodiless B'omarr Monk can often be seen wandering through the halls, and torture droids EV-9D9 and 8D8 can usually be found perfecting their skills in the lower levels of the dungeon.

Better late than never. Today's Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives update completes the members of the Max Rebo Band with the trio of Jabba's Dancers: Rystáll, Greeata, and Lyn Me. After partying with the bounty hunters, the three femme fatales strike a pose for today's update. The mighty Hutt loves his scantily-clad dancers so much, he has one perched upon his throne, keeping company with his pet Kowakian monkey-lizard. Oola and Salacious Crumb are among the first beings seen when visitors come to call.

05/27/2004 09:24 AM
Our Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives update today features the Max Rebo Band, Jabba the Hutt's favorite form of musical entertainment. While the band started out as a trio, Jabba insisted on "special edition" additions of more singers, drummers, and dancers. The vocal duties were shared by Sy Snootles and Joh Yowza, with musical accompaniment performed by Droopy McCool and Barquin D'an, and a throbbing beat played by Max Rebo and Doda Bodonawieedo. The band is not known for punctuality: While today's picture day was scheduled well in advance, Rappertunie showed up early, drummers Umpass-Stay and Ak-Rev were still hung over from the previous night's gig, and the dancers were rumored to be entertaining visiting bounty hunters. Since the death of Jabba the Hutt, the band has had a successful exclusive gig playing at Wal-Marts across the galaxy.

Field promotions are commonplace in the Imperial navy, such as when Captain Piett was promoted to Admiral. Imperial pilots begin their service flying a TIE Fighter, but the most skilled among them can become a Cruisemissile Trooper in aerial assaults. Such is the life of an Imperial soldier in service to Emperor Palaptine.

The Shistavanen scout Lak Sivrak, the Kubasz spy Garindan and the Chadra-Fan/Talz team of thieves, Kabe and Muftak, would all probably rather remain anonymous.

06/20/2004 11:23 AM
After nearly three months, our Power of the Force 2 Photo Archives series of updates wraps up with the Final Jedi Duel, arguably the most emotional lightsaber battle in a Star Wars film...so far, anyway. Take away all the scoundrels, droids, aliens, bounty hunters, space battles, and explosions, and what do you have? A story about the relationship between a son and his father. What better day to end the series than today. My father took me to see my first showing of Star Wars in 1977, and it has been a part of my life ever since. Now I'm off to spend the day with my own children. Happy Father's Day!
