TiVo Reveals Video-Over-Internet Plans

TiVo Reveals Video-Over-Internet Plans 06/09/2004 02:19 PM

tivO_streaming.jpg imageSo this article in the Times about TiVo's plans to provide on-demand television streaming is almost real news, because it does finally confirm what exactly TiVo's plan is to save itself from obscurity. What it doesn't say, though, is how much it will cost and what content it will provide, meaning for now that this is just every other video-over-the-internet companies out there that promise big things and end up never getting off the ground.

If I could pay Netflix-style pricing for television shows, though, I would be all over it. Imagine being able to queue up a Season Pass for a show and then purchase and download the episodes your TiVo hadn't gotten to yet. But I'm sure as shootin' not paying DVD rental prices for low-resolution television programs. Developing!

MacCentral - Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, took a cue from his boss, CEO Steve Jobs, as he unveiled one more thing at the end of his keynote to kick off this week's Apple Expo in Paris: an iMac G5 that includes the entire system inside a 17- or 20-inch LCD screen. Continuing the all-in-one theme that started with the original CRT iMac, the G5 edition features a new industrial design that does away with the hemispherical base of the previous generation all together. Schiller said that the new iMacs will be available in mid-September.

Apple on Thursday offered its latest 10-Q, a standard quarterly filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The document offers a continuing view of Apple's financial condition, its operations and various risks and issues that could affect the company's plans for future business. One of the more interesting sections of the document outlines Apple's current legal woes, including details about the settlement of a case MacCentral first apprised readers of in 2003, and a new case concerning Apple's FairPlay technology.

Apple iMac G5

Apple iMac G5 08/31/2004 06:03 AM

imac_g5_paris.jpg imageAnd it lives! Apple has fully unveiled the new iMac G5, and it's basically a Pizza box PC that looks a lot like the new Cinema displays, except white. Available in 17- and 20-inch form, the machines will come with 1.6 and 1.8GHz G5 processors, respectively. I'll go ahead and throw up this post with pictures, then actually wake up and jump up with more details.

Read - Product Page [Apple]

Update: One sort of geeky thing that immediately is noticable is that the iMac G5 doesn't share the "50% of the processor speed" bus as the PowerMac G5s. That's going to be a real performance wrinkler (although still a welcome bump from the G4).
