back-office applications, including SQL Server, IIS and
Exchange, could be included in a Microsoft Linux conversion.

Linux debate'
04/23/2004 09:23 AMHP, Red Hat, Novell and Sun talking about open-source and Linux at
this year's LinuxExpo -- that's not news. But Microsoft joining in --
now that's news. Microsoft UK's national systems engineer Bradley Tipp
braved the Linux zealots to argue Redmond's corner at the London
event. Questions from the audience ranged from "why is it so difficult
to buy a laptop that's not preloaded with Windows?" to the wider
implications of open-source software for the technology industry as a
whole.

operating system that works best for them is based on Linux. They were
so convinced, in fact, that they dropped all the other product lines
in the consultation arm of the firm and now focus solely on providing
their customers with the same Linux technology that has worked wonders
for their own business.

Unisys suddenly loves Linux: Should
Linux users return that love?
Unisys suddenly loves Linux: Should
Linux users return that love?
08/16/2004 02:19 PM Unisys has long been the main booster -- possibly the only one
besides Microsoft -- of Windows as a mainframe operating system. Now
Unisys says it loves Linux -- but still claims to be a staunch
Microsoft partner -- and it seems like most of its contributions to
the Linux kernel are only useful to Unisys customers. And then there's
the specter of the Unisys GIF patents (now expired), and how the
company used them as weapons against free and open source software
projects only a few years ago. In light of all this, should we welcome
Unisys as a "member of the Linux community" with open arms, or
maintain a skeptical distance until the company proves that it has
truly seen the open source light?
