Marc Liyanage has released a package installer for PHP 5 on OS X. Marc’s package (ahem) is a more ‘Mac-like’ installer than the methods outlined in other tutorials — i.e. a double-clickable package. The package installs PHP into /usr/local/php5 and updates the Apache config to reference the new version, whilst allowing you to switch back to PHP 4 if you wish (by editing the Apache config).

Upon heading over to Marc Liyanage’s Entropy site to grab a copy of MySQL for my lovely new G5 (a work machine), I noticed that Marc’s added a weblog. This is a welcome addition to Marc’s excellent OS X software resource, and allows you to keep up to date with new releases and announcements. For example, the latest post announces the availability of a new PHP package (4.3.6-4) which includes support for the much-requested Ming library.
