More on BT and McDonald's
01/07/2004 02:37 PMBT officially announced that it will build hotspots in over 500
McDonald's restaurants in Britain: BT will pay for the install and
both companies will promote it and share revenues. BT expects to have
4,000 hot spots by this summer and said it will continue to make
roaming agreements with other hot spot operators around the globe.
This story offers slightly different details, including some more
information on what's happening with McDonald's hot spots in the U.S.
A recent survey of McDonald's hot spots in the U.S. showed that
customers are predominantly male, many of whom said they would not
have visited McDonald's if not for the Wi-Fi. So much for the campaign
to encourage people to eat healthier....

iTunes and McDonald's?
iTunes and McDonald's?
11/06/2003 08:47 AMThe New York Post is reporting that Apple and McDonald's are close to
announcing a promotional partnership, with McDonald's offering up to
one billion free downloads from the iTunes Music Store.
Like a similar deal announced with Pepsi last month, McDonald's will
pay Apple the full 99 cents for each song downloaded. This, given that
some will not redeem their prizes, puts the value of the deal in the
hundreds of millions.
The Pepsi deal, which offers 100 million free iTMS downloads, begins
February 1, during the superbowl. The McDonald's promotion, still
unofficial, has no current start date.

No iTunes for McDonald's after all
11/07/2003 11:07 AMDespite an article in the New York Post that Apple and McDonald's were
teaming up to offer one billion iTunes song downloads to McDonald's
customers, a statement issued by the fast-food giant denies any such
agreement exists. "There are no agreements to announce, so anything
else is pure speculation." Were the story true, the promotion could
end up costing McDonald's up to $990 million for online music
downloads, a figure higher than the company's entire 2002
advertising...

McDonald's Trying DVD Rentals... Again?
05/24/2004 05:37 PMA year and a half ago we noted that McDonald's had decided to run a
trial program in the Washington DC area, where they
offered
DVD rentals out of a large vending machine at their stores. There
wasn't much news about the program, and it seemed safe to assume it
wasn't going anywhere. However, today, McDonald's is announcing what
sounds like
an identical DVD rental program in Denver - without
mentioning
at all that they've already tried this. It's a bit
odd that they would roll out a second "test" program so much later,
and not even admit they had done an earlier test of an identical
system.

11/06/2003 09:59 AMMcDonalds plans to give away up to one billion iTunes Music Store
songs to its customers. Like Pepsi, McDonald's will pay Apple 99
centers per song downloaded as a result of the giveaway. Because not
all customers will take advantage of the offer, it is likely that the
campaign will generate hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue for
the iTunes Music Store. Apple and McDonald's were not available for

McDonald's and iTunes speculation
11/07/2003 11:07 AMThe mystery surrounding a possible McDonald's - iTunes Music Store
deal continues to deepen. The statement released yesterday by
McDonald's stating that "there are no agreements to announce, so
anything else is pure speculation," is the type of statement
corporations make when they are in negotiations and don't want to to
fuel the rumor mill. Since the reported number of one billion songs
does seem astonishingly high, it is possible that the fast-food giant

aimed at boosting productivity. Many of them involve wireless, though

will use which type of network. 225 managers and other mobile workers
will use smartphones instead of laptops and mobile phones and they'll
