Microsoft prohibited from paying
employees with stock instead of options
11/04/2003 10:55 AMThe California Public Employees' Retirement System, the biggest U.S.
pension fund, said it voted against a Microsoft Corp. proposal that
would let the company pay workers with stock instead of options. The
fund also opposed the makeup of the board's audit committee. Calpers
withheld votes for directors on Microsoft's three-member audit
committee because the company authorized its auditor, Deloitte &
Touche LLP, to perform other services, spokesman Brad Pacheco said.

Microsoft, Fiat Announce In-Car
Computers Partnership
07/16/2004 08:46 AM
Microsoft has been eyeing the automotive market for
nigh-on a decade at this point and finally their investments may start
to pay off in products that might actually be useful. Fiat, for
instance, has just announced a long-term strategic partnership, which
in and of itself isn't that spectacular, but some of their ideas, if
they come to fruition, sound pretty great: Bluetooth sync of contacts
and address book information; easy USB hookups for accessing MP3
players; integrated cellular service (this is pretty common these
days, but a broader standard would be nice). It's the sort of design
philosophy that I can really get behind; I don't want my car to be
able to do everything. I just want it to be able to talk to all my
other gadgets. (Thanks, Nicolai!)

04/13/2004 05:06 PMSince the announcement of Sun's settlement with Microsoft over Java,
there has been a lot of rampant speculation echoing back and forth
over the net. A lot of it reads like bad conspiracy-theory stuff.
People have been reading between the lines and making stuff up. This
echos around the rumor mill and gains the appearance of fact. I'd like
to try to set the record straight on a number of points.
