CodeFutures Targets Senior Java
Developers with Architect Edition of its
FireStorm/DAO Code Generation Tool
09/23/2004 03:24 AM
CodeFutures has launched an Architect Edition of its popular FireStorm/DAO Java code generation tool. FireStorm/DAO makes Java software developers more productive by automatically generating Java source code for accessing relational databases. The benefits provided by CodeFutures' code generation approach are higher developer productivity, better software quality, and lower maintenance costs. The Architect Edition allows new custom code generation templates to be developed and integrated with the FireStorm/DAO Studio environment. [PRWEB Sep 23, 2004]

FireStorm/DAO 2.4 (Default branch)

FireStorm/DAO 2.4 (Default branch) 04/08/2005 04:26 AM
FireStorm imports database schema definitions from SQL scripts or from live databases via JDBC, and then generates a complete data-access tier based on the Data Access Object (DAO) design pattern. The generated source code is well-written, consistent, and contains documentation. FireStorm can generate source code based on JDBC/SQL and can also generate EJB Entity Beans for leading J2EE application servers, such as BEA WebLogic and IBM WebSphere. FireStorm/DAO is a powerful yet simple alternative to traditional object-relational mapping products. Rather than attempting to map any Java code to any database schema using complex rules, FireStorm generates Java source code that is a one-to-one representation of a relational database schema.
Changes:
This release now includes full support for generating Java persistence code for calling Stored Procedures (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase). Other enhancements include an improved user interface, and new wizards for generating code.

Office 2003 Tool: Local Installation
Source Tool
05/28/2004 01:48 AM
The Local Installation Source Tool is a wizard to help manage your Local Installation Source (LIS) on computers running Microsoft Office 2003. The LIS Tool allows you to enable or disable LIS, and to move the MsoCache folder to a new volume. This download is intended for use by customers and network administrators with LIS issues who contact Microsoft Product Support Services. Local Installation Source is a Setup feature. When a user installs Microsoft Office 2003 from a CD or a compressed CD image on the network, Setup copies any required installation files to a hidden folder on the local computer. Microsoft Windows Installer uses this local installation source to install Office, and the local source remains available for repairing, reinstalling or updating Office later on. Users can install features on demand or run Setup in maintenance mode to add new features without their original media.

Semistructured Query-by-Example

Semistructured Query-by-Example 03/16/2003 04:21 AM

I just stumbled across this experimental Query language for XML, called XCerpt.  It is example-based variable binding, and looks very much like Prolog queries over a triples database, or like Redland's QBE would look if they used RDF/XML syntax instead of triples.  Such query syntaxes seem popular for graph queries, but I'm not sure if they are really the best for users.

In any case, the paper on XCerpt was interesting.  Although XQuery is not as "imperative" as the paper wants you to believe, XCerpt really does blur the line between "data" and "code" more than XQuery does.  It makes you want to use it, because it hints seductively that code and data are really the same thing.
