02/13/2004 05:19 PMAudible, Inc. recently announced
the availability of an iTunes 4 plug-in that allows Mac OS X users to
seamlessly transfer downloaded Audible content to audio-enabled,
Palm-based PDAs, such as the palmONE Treo 600 Smartphone and Tungsten,
Zire, and Sony CLIE handhelds. Previously, the only available
Mac-ready mobile options compatible with Audible's proprietary file
format were Apple's iPod and the company's own Otis portable player.
An Audible representative told MacCentral that the plug-in is part of
the firmware upgrade that you receive when you download the
AudiblePlayer for Palm application as part of the Audible service
set-up. The plug-in was declared "gold" on Monday and should now be
part of the firmware upgrade.

viral-marketing scam. It was Tim who got the official statement
from the marketing geeks:
It has been brought to our attention that several
unauthorized, sexually suggestive advertisements portraying the PUMA
brand have been released over the Internet. We are appalled that
images like these would be created and distributed under the PUMA
name. As a brand, we seek to take a unique perspective toward our
advertising in an effort to challenge the boundaries of our industry;
however we would never consider using these tactics. We are in the
process of researching the circumstances and reserve any legal steps
available.

As you surely noticed, Fink has a logo. This is the result of our
Logo contest held earlier this year.
This new, official, logo has been displayed since the 24th of October
and
those of you who wondered how it has been picked and what the name of
the
winner is should read up in the PR section.
The longer explanation also features a larger version of the logo
itself,
so that you may have a closer look at its details. We like our new
logo,
we hope that you will like it too.
IMPORTANT: We do not yet have a formal licensing agreement for the
new
logo and so are unable to give permission to distribute it.
Currently, it
can only be displayed on the Fink web page. Thank you for your
understanding.

swooshes, pop-art finneals, the color green, wireframes, etc). Though
it strikes me that, given my penchant for dinstinctiveness in
logomarks that I would be liekley to use this as a crib-sheet for
critiquing the logo-development undertaken by my design-firm: "Dude, a
green wireframe swooshy pop-art blob? That is
so played-out.
I want the new-new." Or, as Ian McDonald put it in his brilliant
novel,

The Logo contest held by Fink, announced here,
ended yesterday. With over 80 different proposals from countries all
over the world we
consider the contest a big success.
In the next couple of days all the submitted entries will be put
on-line in a publically accessable gallery and more details on the
participants shall be published. For those who are
curious and cannot wait may have a look at an incomplete preview.

Every time a pin drops, an angel
gets its wings.
That's all I've got. I actually don't hate it, really, and it'll be
good for Sprint to ditch the red and white (also Verizon's colors) to
go with something a bit more shocking. Now they just need to co-brand
a phone with DeWalt with swappable drill bits.

MacWelt have managed to organize a logo contest.
For the next six weeks everyone is invited to submit their logo
creations.
Fink needs a new face and with your help we might just get one. We
are curious to see what you imagine Fink to be as a graphical
representation.
The initial announcement by Macnews is in German, for those of you not
capable of reading German a translated version can be found
here.
Fink and MacWelt hope that many of you will participate as we might
