A guide to troubleshooting your PC
12/19/2004 03:46 PMThere's nothing more frustrating that spend several hours putting
together a PC, or even just sitting down to do some surfing, and
turning on your machine only to find that it won't post. Even better
you find yourself playing level 2 help desk to friends and
family with hardware issues. What do you do? Find the source of the
problem, of course. We at Ars have put together a handy, step-by-step
guide on how to track down and solve the problem.
This guide will walk you through how to test your case,
motherboard, CPU, and each and every component that could be causing
your problem. At the end, we'll give you a nice little introduction on
how to overclock your system, if you're so inclined. Read on.

Troubleshooting Common Problems with the
XmlSerializer
06/20/2004 11:47 PMThe XmlSerializer in the .NET Framework is a great tool to map
strongly structured XML data to .NET objects. The XmlSerializer
performs the transformations between XML documents and objects in your
program with a single API call. The mapping rules for the
transformation are expressed in the .NET classes via metadata
attributes. This programming model comes with its own class of errors
that developers need to learn how to diagnose. For example, the
metadata attributes have to describe all variations of an XML format
that a serializer can process. This article examines the various
errors that can occur when building XML based solutions with the
XmlSerializer, and discusses techniques and tools to diagnose them.

06/05/2004 10:18 AM"Literally millions of people use a big chunk of Safari on Windows.
It's the browser built into iTunes. It works today," John Allsopp
writes for The Sydney Morning Herald. "So arguably the quickest, most
standards compliant browser around, which by the way is based on the
open source KHTML rendering engine, is available right now on Windows.
And to use iTunes, you need to use it. Apple contributes to the KHTML
project, so many of its innovations will find their way into that
browser. On the Mac, Windows and UNIX variants."
