ACISgroup, an ISP in Greece, will build hotspots in major hotels and nearby outdoor areas in Greece in anticipation of the upcoming Olympics. The ISP will use gear from Proxim and Nomadix. Roy Disney has resigned from the Disney Board of Directors, and has sent a scathing email to Michael Eisner explaining, in exorciating detail, exactly why he's leaving the company his uncle founded.

1. The failure to bring back ABC Prime Time from the ratings abyss it has been in for years and your inability to program successfully the ABC Family Channel. Both of these failures have had, and I believe will continue to have, significant adverse impact on shareholder value.

2. Your consistent micro-management of everyone around you with the resulting loss of morale throughout the Company.

3. The timidity of your investments in our theme park business. At Disney's California Adventure, Paris and now in Hong Kong, you have tried to build parks "on the cheap" and they show it and the attendance figures reflect it.

Many companies have come to favor specialized measurable education for both their employees and those they look to hire, as witness the large number of "certified" acronyms nowadays -- CCNA, MCSE, RHCE, SCSE, LPIC, ICSA. A few years ago, you couldn't find a Linux certification program anywhere. Today, with Linux showing up all over the enterprise, training and certification programs are showing up as well. In fact, three of the six acronyms above refer to Linux certifications, not the Cisco or Microsoft certifications we're used to hearing about.

Despite apparant tensions between Apple and Adobe concerning video editing software, Apple will have a strong presence at the upcoming PhotoshopWorld. Apple is expected to demonstrate the performance of the upcoming G5-enhanced Photoshop 8.0 on its new G5 Power Macs. A tongue-in-cheek advertising campaign by Apple in response to the cancellation of Adobe's Premier software for the Mac had led to speculation that Adobe might consider ceasing all development for the Macintosh platform.

The National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) on Wednesday announced that registration has opened for its PhotoshopWorld Conference & Expo event, coming to Orlando, Fla. from September 1 - 3, 2004. The show is held on both East and West Coasts and was last held in San Francisco, Calif. in March. The event features 60 classroom sessions led by industry experts like Scott Kelby, Terry White, Deke McClelland and many others. More than 60 exhibiting companies provide training and information about their latest hardware, software, cameras, printers, workstation, training materials and more. Admission costs US$499 before July 30, 2004, $599 after. NAPP members can save $100 on registration. More details are available online.

PhotoshopWorld Conference & Expo organizers have announced that the first mobile on-site testing for Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) status will happen during the show, which will be held Sept. 1-3 in Orlando, Fla. Attendees will receive a 25 percent discount off the cost of the test, which will be US$112.50 only during PhotoshopWorld; testers can register online. They'll receive the opportunity to show what they know about Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive, Acrobat Reader, After Effects and others.
