on the future of the PDF and competing platforms that have developed
to knock PDF of its perch.
Yet it has its share of critics who complain that it's not
the most effective digital distribution method. Among its most famous
broadsides was Jakob Nielsen's June, 2001 Alert Box column in which he
concluded that the PDF was great for printing out documents, but lousy
for online reading. Others complain about Acrobat Reader's load time,
especially on Web sites. In spite of these criticisms, the PDF has
solidified its place as the leader in electronic document
distribution.

to was from the airplane when we took off, and on that basis I can

commercial flight than Singapore-Newark? I'm glad to be home, eager to
see my family, and would love to find a way to go back to Singapore
someday soon....

Safari 1.1, Part 2
Safari 1.1, Part 2
10/28/2003 11:08 PMResponding to some of the trackbacks from the previous blog
entry...
The first mentions a bug in 1.1, and the test page is found here. In Safari
post-Panther, the rendering is actually different (but still broken).
I'm not sure what the problem is at first glance, but I'll take a
look.
The second trackback asks for complete navigation of bookmarks from
the keyboard. Since that isn't part of WebCore, I can't comment.
Several trackbacks also ask about Safari 1.1 on Jaguar. As I've
mentioned in previous blog entries, I can't comment on future Safari
releases.
I can whet your appetite with more WebCore stuff that we've
implemented since Safari 1.1: small-caps support, fixes for
first-letter and text-transform (the ugly doubling text effect is
gone), fixes to first-line, and speed improvements to DHTML.

06/05/2005 11:54 PMSince the unveiling of Safari RSS last year at WWDC, the Mac community
and the Apple marketing department have been in an ongoing battle. For
some (guess who), Safari RSS is the answer to all of humanity's
problems, from poverty and hunger to the overly frequent appearance of
pop-up windows on screens. To others, Safari RSS is the weirdest and
most useless combination of technologies ever thought of in the
computing world.

Understanding The JavaScript Event Model
(part 1)
07/17/2002 11:08 AMThis may be news to you, but JavaScript comes with a powerful
and flexible event model, one which provides developers with a
standardized way of trapping and handling client-side events like
keystrokes and mouse clicks. This two-part article takes an in-depth
look at how this event model works, demonstrating some practical (and
not-so-practical) uses of the most common event handlers.

and get the suggestions back from the server instead of using

FrontPage Add-ins in C#
08/02/2004 01:10 AMSimilar to macros but more powerful, add-ins allow you to extend the
built-in functionality of Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003. You can
create COM add-ins in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 or Microsoft Visual
C++ 6.0, or you can create managed add-ins in any of the languages
that use the Microsoft .NET Framework, such as Microsoft Visual Basic
.NET or Microsoft Visual C# .NET.
When you create managed add-ins for FrontPage2003, you can use the
tools, classes, and programming languages that are part of the
Microsoft .NET Framework. The MSDN article "Creating Managed FrontPage
Add-ins in C#" (see the Related Resources box on this page) shows you
how to create a managed add-in for FrontPage in C# and assumes a
general knowledge of the .NET Framework and a functional knowledge of
the C# programming language. The article also explains what you need
to know to create your own managed add-ins for FrontPage and provides
extensive resources for more information.

The most modern home built in the
world. "From the outside it looks
like a spaceship you cannot enter. But if
you go inside, it feels very cozy… very Zen and calming. Maybe
because you are
floating
above the city, in the sky".
John Lautner's
Chemosphere residence is the product of a
fortuitous union of
architect, client, time and place.
Leonard Malin was a young
aerospace engineer in late-1950s L.A. whose father-in-law had just
given him a plot north of Mulholland Drive, near Laurel Canyon. The
only catch: at roughly 45 degrees, the slope was all but unbuildable.
Lautner sketched a bold vertical line, a cross, and a curve above it.
"Draw it up," he told his assistant.
Now publisher
Benedik
t Taschen owns Chemosphere (NSFW), and after 20
years of neglect the house has been beautifully
restored

Frank
Escher.
