Microsoft Corp. today unveiled its first voice-controlled software for Windows Mobile™-based Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition, making consumers' wishes their command. Microsoft® Voice Command transforms PDAs and cell phones into virtual personal assistants by allowing consumers to experience effortless, speaker-independent, hands-free voice interaction with their phone, contacts, calendar and digital music while on the go. Voice Command moves the company one step closer to putting the digital lifestyle within reach.

Microsoft Corp. is launching the MSN Video Downloads service, which will provide daily television programming, including video content from MSNBC.com, Food Network, FOX Sports and IFILM Corp., for download to Windows Mobile-based devices such as Portable Media Centers and select Smartphones and Pocket PCs running Windows Media Player 10 Mobile. Since the launch of the Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Portable Media Center last fall, more than 20 new content partners, including CinemaNow Inc., MLB.com, MSNBC.com, MSN Music, MTV Networks Music, Napster Inc., SnapStream Media Inc. and TiVo Inc., have agreed to make video available online specifically formatted for Windows Mobile-based multimedia devices. The company says the MSN Video Downloads is one of the first online video download services dedicated to portable entertainment. The service is initially available in the United States only and a one-year premium membership to the MSN Video Downloads service with access to all available videos costs US$19.95. In addition, people can access a limited amount of free content without a paid membership.

On Monday (June 28) at the Microsoft Embedded Developers Conference (DevCon), Microsoft announced the launch of Windows CE version 5.0, Microsoft's operating system for devices such as ATMs, medical instruments, set-top-boxes for home entertainment, point-of-sale terminals, voice over IP appliances, and industrial automation systems. Windows CE 5.0 -- previously code-named "Macallan"-- will offer expanded source licensing, enabling, for the first time, all licensees to ship products commercially built from their modifications of the Windows CE 5.0 shared source code. Licensees will maintain ownership of their derivative code and will not be obligated to share modifications with Microsoft, partners or competitors.
