06/03/2004 05:27 AMInformation Retrieval Softwarehttp://www.ir-ware.biz/This web site provides links to information retrieval software. You
will find links to search engines to search the web, site search
engines, local drives, or local area networks. They provide links to
web sites with related subjects, to Internet search engines, web
directories, and to online publications on information retrieval. You
will find more than 3,000 links in their directory. There are lots of
search utilities to discover on the web. You can find all kinds of
software to search a site, often written in PERL, JAVA, or JavaScript.
There are also web robots or web spiders which can be used to search
the web, but also to search a local area network or a local hard
drive. This has been added to

Building Research Tools for Scientists in the New Information
Agehttp://www
2.cs.uregina.ca/~jtyao/Papers/Web_WI03.pdfAbstract:
The concept of Web-based Information Retrieval Support Systems
(WIRSS) is introduced. The needs for WIRSS are shown by a detailed
case study of existing research article indexing and citation analysis
systems, such as Curent Content, DBLP, Science Citation Index and
CiteSeer. The objective of WIRSS is to build new and effective
research tools for scientists to access, explore and use information
on the Web, which may lead to improved research productivity and
quality.

Retrieval by Oren Kurland and Lillian Leehttp:
//eprints.osti.gov/cgi-bin/dexpldcgi?qry1131250613;1Abstract by Authors:
Most previous work on the recently
developed language-modeling approach to information retrieval focuses
on document-specific characteristics, and therefore does not take into
account the structure of the surrounding corpus. We propose a novel
algorithmic framework in which information provided by document-based
language models is enhanced by the incorporation of information drawn
from clusters of similar documents. Using this framework, we develop a
suite of new algorithms. Even the simplest typically outperforms the
standard language-modeling approach in precision and recall, and our
new interpolation algorithm posts statistically significant
improvements for both metrics over all three corpora tested.

Environments
12/02/2003 08:47 AMSIMILE: Semantic Interoperability of Metadata and Information
in unLike Environmentshttp://web.mit.edu/simile/www/

SIMILE is a joint project conducted by the W3C, HP, MIT
Libraries, and MIT's Lab for Computer Science. SIMILE seeks to enhance
inter-operability among digital assets, schemas, metadata, and
services. A key challenge is that the collections which must
inter-operate are often distributed across individual, community, and
institutional stores. They seek to be able to provide end-user
services by drawing upon the assets, schemas, and metadata held in
such stores.
SIMILE will leverage and extend DSpace,
enhancing its support for arbitrary schemas and metadata, primarily
though the application of RDF and semantic web techniques. The project
also aims to implement a digital asset dissemination architecture
based upon web standards. The dissemination architecture will provide
a mechanism to add useful "views" to a particular digital artifact
(i.e. asset, schema, or metadata instance), and bind those views to
consuming services.

Research Information Systems (CRIS)by A. Lopatenkohttp
://eprints.osti.gov/cgi-bin/dexpldcgi?qry1123892181;12Abstract:The most exciting challenge for CRIS
is to create a service for research information which should be
wide-spread, distributed and actual like Google, but at the same time
structured, trusted, with a complex search and navigation similar to
today CRIS application. The core technology for such a "new" CRIS is
the semantic web technology to integrate database contents with HTML
and XML web pages for being provided to the research interested
public. One (at the moment the best) possible way is to use RDF
(Resource Description Framework) which is also recommended by the W3
consortium. This has been added to the articles section of

MIE 7.0 Information
MIE 7.0 Information
03/17/2005 03:07 AMFrom Microsoft Watch, Microsoft
has been keeping details on Internet Explorer 7.0, code-named
“Rincon” to themselves, but Microsoft Watch has found some
information from their partners. There will be tabs, PNG support,
possibly a built-in News Aggregator, and IDN support. Here’s
what they said about security enhancements.
Among the myriad security enhancements Microsoft is expecting
to include in IE 7.0, according to partner sources:
reduced privilege mode becomes the default;
no cross-domain scripting and/or scripting access;
improved Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) user interface;
possible integration between IE 7.0 and Microsoft's Windows
anti-spyware service, which currently is in beta.
Partner sources say Microsoft is wavering
on the extent to which it plans to support CSS2 with IE 7.0.
Developers have been clamoring for Microsoft to update its CSS support
to support the latest W3C standards for years. But Microsoft is
leaning toward adding some additional CSS2 support to IE 7.0, but not
embracing the standard in its entirety, partners say.
